Kennedy Middle School serving students in Grade 7 and/or Grade 8.The Literacy Teacher provides targeted literacy instruction designed to strengthen students' reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills. Working in alignment with grade-level ELA standards and the district's core curriculum, the teacher uses high-quality instructional materials and data-informed practices to support students in developing comprehension, vocabulary, discussion, and analytical writing skills across literary and informational texts.The Literacy Teacher reinforces essential literacy skills, monitors student progress, and fosters an engaging, supportive learning environment that promotes academic growth and student confidence.Key ResponsibilitiesDeliver targeted, standards-aligned literacy instruction to secondary studentsUtilize data (e.g., benchmark assessments, formative assessments, progress monitoring tools) to drive instruction and interventionCollaborate with ELA and content-area teachers to integrate literacy strategies schoolwideSupport students' development in reading comprehension, vocabulary, academic discourse, and analytical writingDifferentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including multilingual learners and students with disabilitiesImplement evidence-based literacy practices aligned with the Science of Reading and adolescent literacy researchFoster a classroom environment that is safe, inclusive, and academically rigorousPromote student engagement, voice, and confidence in literacy skillsMonitor and document student progress and communicate outcomes with staff and familiesParticipate in ongoing professional developmentEffective classroom managementContribute to school-wide literacy initiatives and continuous improvement efforts QualificationsRequired:Valid Connecticut Teaching Certification: 015 - English (Secondary)Bachelor's degree in English, Education, Literacy, or a related fieldDemonstrated knowledge of adolescent literacy development and instructional strategiesPreferred:Master's degree in Literacy, Reading, or Curriculum & InstructionExperience with middle school learnersExperience with intervention programs and progress monitoring systemsTraining in evidence-based literacy instruction and intervention practices Skills and CompetenciesStrong understanding of grade-level ELA standards and literacy developmentAbility to analyze student data and adjust instruction accordinglyExpertise in differentiation and scaffolding techniquesCommitment to culturally responsive and inclusive instructional practicesStrong collaboration and communication skillsAbility to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleaguesDedication to continuous professional growth and reflective practice What We OfferA collaborative and supportive professional environmentOpportunities for professional growth and leadership developmentA district committed to innovation, equity, and student successThe opportunity to make a meaningful impact on student literacy and achievement Application ProcessPlease apply through the Enfield Public Schools employment portal and submit:ResumeCover LetterCopy of Certification (015 - English)List of Professional References
