Participates in proficiency testing, adhering to federal and state regulations as well as hospital policies. Performs post-analytical activities including reporting results and providing technical and support information for all age groups. Provides resolution to customer service issues within guidelines and support education for clinical staff as appropriate or requested. Participates in laboratory and hospital performance improvement activities, including evaluating new equipment and procedures. Adheres to all applicable local, state, and federal regulations, protecting patient information confidentiality. Follows safety policies, including the use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling, and demonstrates understanding of the Chemical Hygiene plan and Infection Control policies. Transports hazardous waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storage area, completing initial and refresher training for proper handling and disposal. Assists in new employee training and orientation. Answers the telephone and performs clerical and receptionist duties to support department operations. Maintains workspaces in a neat, organized, and properly supplied manner, storing and safeguarding documentation and paperwork. Performs pre-analytical activities including equipment maintenance, function checks, inventory control, specimen collection, biological specimen processing, cleaning and disinfection, quality control, and calibration. Other duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Technical skills and aptitudes related to the laboratory testing, procedures, and processes performed in the department or work area assignedFollows and ensures adherence of staff to the Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies; protects the confidentiality of patient information and results at all timesAbility to work independently and adapt to varying priorities, including directing workflow with minimal supervisionAbility to maintain equipment/records and perform quality assessment activitiesAbility to operate computer systems to maintain patient documentation, testing records, and other related documentsAbility to educate and train new staff in medical laboratory settingsAbility to communicate appropriately and effectively with patients and their family, hospital staff, nurses, physicians, and other health care professionalsMust be able to read, write, and speak conversational EnglishBasic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft OfficeAssociates' degree in medical technology or related sciences with state licensure if required or appropriate national certificationMust hold a certification from one of the following: Medical Laboratory Scientist (American Society for Clinical Pathology), or Medical Technologist (American Society for Clinical Pathology), or Medical Technologist (American Medical Technologist), or Medical Technologist (American Associate of Bioanalyst), or Clinical Laboratory Supervisor through AMTAbility and willingness to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, etc., and adapt to changeExcellent customer service skills, with the ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing; additional languages [Preferred]Strong analytical, organizational, and people skills, with mathematical, computer, reasoning, and language skills at the college levelFamiliarity with a broad range of laboratory equipment including but not limited to computers, telephone, fax, copier, printers, chemistry analyzers, hematology analyzers, coagulation analyzers, urinalysis analyzers, blood bank and microbiology analyzers, glucometers, incubators, environmental hoods, monitored refrigerators and freezers, centrifuges, phlebotomy chairs, and suppliesEducation:* Associate in a laboratory science (chemical or biological science) or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution or successful completion of at least a 50-week official us military medical laboratory procedures training course and currently hold or have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of medical laboratory specialist (laboratory technician); or qualified and served as high complexity testing personnel on or before April 24, 1995 in a clia-certified laboratory as of December 28, 2024, and have done so continuously since December 28, 2024.
