Bus Attendant

Interviews may be ongoing QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Must possess NYSED approved School Bus Monitor & Attendant pre-service course certificate; 2. Must have ability to relate to children and manage their behavior; 3. Must be able to follow oral and written directions; 4. Must be able to clearly communicate both orally and in writing and to perform basic arithmetic computations; 5. Must have a history of good attendance; 6. Must be in good physical condition. REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Transportation Head Bus Driver(s) JOB GOAL: To ride the school bus for the purpose of maintaining order and supervising the loading and unloading of buses. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Assists students in boarding and departing the bus; 2. Makes sure the child is securely in their seat before notifying driver to proceed; 3. Keeps children in their proper seats and keeps them as comfortable as possible; 4. Assists driver upon request (traffic conditions, directions, etc.); 5. Is alert and sees that children do not throw objects, maintains order in general; 6. Sees that no child gets out of his or her seat until the bus stops and is ready for unloading and loading; 7. Keeps records and makes daily reports of needs; 8. Assists in the cleaning of bus (sweeping, dusting, wiping down, garbage removal, etc); 9. Operates elevator in loading and unloading of physically challenged students; 10. Makes sure necessary supplies are available at all times; 11. Performs related work as required.
