RECREATION INSTRUCTOR (PT) - MOUNTAIN BIKING
Job Title: Recreation Instructor (PT) Department: RecreationPay Grade: NGFLSA Status: Non-ExemptJOB SUMMARY:The purpose of the position is to perform a variety of professional duties instructing the public in the parks and recreation department for the County. This position aids to organize, execute and manage designated programs and events. The position requires extensive public contact with participants, which may include children, youth, adults and senior citizens. The position works under the Director of Haywood County Recreation & Parks and is reviewed through periodic conferences. The position is subject to hazards in parks and recreation work including both inside and outside environments, noises, and atmospheric conditions.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Lead or assist in the organizing, administrating and managing one or more of the following programs:Rec Basketball, Birding, Fly Fishing, Mountain Biking, Paddleboarding, Yoga, Tai Chi, Fly Tying, Wildlife Identification, Astronomy Identification, Wilderness Survival Skills, Kayaking, Recreation events, Afterschool Partnership Programs, Senior Games and Hiking.Assist in participant registration and check-ins for programs and events.Participates in the guide check in meetings at least 3 times per year and gives feedback for future program recommendations.Reports back attendance and a summary of how a program went in a timely manner to the Recreation and Parks Director.Takes care of equipment provided, checking to see if the equipment is faulty before and after the program.Assists the department with any other tasks assigned.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:Two years of directly related experience;Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience.Current CPR/ first aid certification preferred or willing to complete certification provided in-house.Must be at least twenty-one years of age to drive a County vehicle.Valid state driver's license. Must have no more than three (3) points showing on current DMV records to operate county vehicles.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Knowledge of county ordinances, policies, and procedures;Skill in communicating effectively both orally and in writing;Skill in the use of computers and applicable software programs; andAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate effectively with other employees and the general public.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:May involve exerting up to or over fifty (50) pounds of force occasionally to move objects, or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving repetitive motions.The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking abilities, depth and texture perception, and color perception.WORK ENVIRONMENT:Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily.
