Associate Field Service Technician
Job Description
Engineering Innovation, Inc. is looking for an Associate Field Service Technician. This is an internship position.
As an Associate Field Service Technician, you will be paired with a Senior Field Service Technician and travel to customer sites all over the country to install new equipment, perform maintenance on existing equipment, provide training, or troubleshoot problems. You will also work with customers to identify, analyze, and repair product problems, order and replace parts as needed, and install software and firmware.
As an Associate Field Service Technician, you will act as both our ambassador to the customer and the voice of the customer within EII.
Engineering Innovation, Inc. (EII). EII, a dynamic growth technology company, is a premier provider of postal and parcel automation and is located in Lafayette, IN (about 20 minutes from the campus of Purdue University).
This is a paid part-time position and is only open to U.S. Citizens or U.S. Permanent Residents.
What You’ll Do
As an Associate Field Service Technician, you’ll gain real-world, customer‑facing experience supporting the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Engineering Innovation’s equipment and software systems. This role is ideal for students who enjoy hands‑on technical work, problem‑solving, and interacting directly with customers.
Your responsibilities may include:
On‑Site Support
Travel to customer sites with a Senior Field Service Technician for equipment installations, maintenance, updates, and troubleshooting
Performing on-site preventative maintenance on customer’s equipment
Install patches, software updates, and system upgrades
Customer Interaction & Communication
Make and receive phone calls with customers regarding technical issues
Take ownership of customer concerns and manage cases through resolution
Document details of each customer interaction, including steps taken and results
Gather customer information, interpret the situation, and provide clear, helpful guidance
Technical Troubleshooting
Research, diagnose, and identify solutions to equipment and software issues
Apply mechanical, electrical, and software knowledge to solve problems
Collaborate with internal engineering teams when deeper investigation is needed
What You Bring

Has strong mechanical, electrical, and software aptitude
Can think on their feet and troubleshoot effectively
Has the ability to travel to customer sites
Can stand or be on their feet for extended periods
Holds a valid driver’s license
Exhibits a helper mentality with strong organizational and prioritization abilities
Has excellent interpersonal skills — this role interacts directly with customers
Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication
Is familiar with Microsoft Office Suite
Can balance multiple projects and requests simultaneously
Works well in a dynamic, fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment
