Electrical Engineer II

Position OverviewThe Electrical Engineer II will apply their professional and technical expertise to designing electrical engineering concepts and options that align with the owner’s vision for each project. This individual should have a solid understanding of the consulting engineering process and the contractual documents which are involved.ResponsibilitiesDetermine the scope of assigned projects and utilize software programs to create the electrical system designs including lighting, power distribution, emergency generation systems, fire alarm, security, or other electrical systemsDetermine cost-effective system layouts, quantities/sizes, and specifications, and verify code compliance of the system designsPreparation and layout of BIM drawings and coordination with all other disciplines at all phases of project production, including schematic design phase, design development phase, permitting phase, and construction documents phasePerform construction administration tasks including, but not limited to, site observations, shop drawing review, and preparation of punch listsDefine appropriate project scope and ensure it is accurately reflected in the contract documents. Proactively manage any possible scope of work variances to ensure client satisfaction and that projects stay on trackMaintain excellent business relationships and communication with clients, partners, architects, owners, other design and construction professionals, and various code officials regarding the overall engineering project, associated assignments, and action itemsSupport with mentoring more inexperienced electrical designersMiscellaneous duties, as assignedQualificationsCandidates must be authorized to work in the United States and based in Houston TexasBachelor’s Degree in Electrical EngineeringAt least 5 years of experience in electrical engineering design of commercial buildings preferably in aviation, higher education, health care, hospitality, entertainment, or governmental facilitiesLicensed Professional Engineer (PE), or Engineer in Training (EIT), preferredAt least 2 years of experience coordinating with multi-discipline engineering teamsExperience with a variety of project deliverable methods including design-build, design-bid-construct, fast-track and other construction delivery methodsKnowledge of local, state, and national codes, including other aspects of laws, regulations, and potential liabilities affecting the practice of engineeringRevit MEP proficiency required, and familiarity with other engineering software programsHighly proficient technical/computer skills including Microsoft O365 (Outlook, Work, Excel), internet and web applicationsExcellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills; ability to clearly convey information, ideas, and concepts verbally, written, or in graphic formAbility to prepare original specifications for project systems and components, as well as complete project manuals with sub-consultant specifications when the company serves as the prime professionalMust have the technical knowledge and hands-on experience to effectively evaluate various electrical engineering options for configuration of equipment and componentsExperienced with cost containment and reduction approaches
