Computer Scientist (Entry-Level)

VMC LLC is hiring an entry-level Computer Scientist to support the Research and Development Human Factors Laboratory (RDHFL) at the FAA's William J. Hughes Technical Center (WJHTC) in Egg Harbor Township, NJ. The RDHFL conducts human factors research supporting the safe, effective implementation of National Airspace System (NAS) concepts, using a multifunctional facility capable of simulating live NAS operations. This role requires full-time onsite support at the William J. Hughes Technical Center (WJHTC) in Egg Harbor Township, NJ. This position is highly collaborative, and remote work is not permitted. Compensation to be finalized upon agreement Intended Start Date: October 2026 Description Candidates should possess a foundation in software engineering and programming concepts and be ready to: Participate in software development, testing, integration, and troubleshooting activities Develop and maintain software applications utilizing a variety of programming languages and technologies Support research, prototyping, and simulation activities, including projects utilizing the Godot game engine Collaborate with engineers, researchers, and stakeholders to develop innovative solutions supporting FAA research initiatives Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities 0-2 years of relevant experience Knowledge of computer programming languages and software development principles Experience developing software applications using languages such as Python, C++, Java, JavaScript, Tcl, or Bash Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve software and system issues Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills Strong collaboration skills with proven ability to work effectively in a team environment Available for full-time, on-site work and committed to in-person collaboration. Preferred Skills Experience with the Godot game engine Familiarity with Git or other version control systems Experience developing or supporting educational, training, or instructional software/content Familiarity with web development tools such as HTML, CSS, TypeScript, Node.js, or similar technologies Required Education Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field. OR 5 years of relevant experience may be substituted for the Bachelor's Degree. Master's Degree or MBA in related field may be substituted for Bachelor's degree and 3 years experience.
