Database Administrator (DBA)We are seeking a highly skilled Database Administrator (DBA) to manage and optimize relational databases in AWS. This role focuses on Amazon RDS for Oracle, Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL, and Amazon RDS for SQL Server.You will own the full lifecycle of database operations including provisioning, configuration, upgrades, performance tuning, backup and recovery, security, and daily support. In addition, you will provide technical leadership, define cloud database standards, build runbooks, and drive automation to ensure high performance, availability, and reliability across environments.Key ResponsibilitiesDatabase Administration & OperationsAdminister and support Amazon RDS and Aurora environments across Oracle, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server platformsManage database provisioning, configuration, patching, upgrades, and ongoing maintenanceProvisioning & ConfigurationDesign, deploy, and configure RDS instances and Aurora clustersDefine instance sizing, storage allocation, parameter groups, option groups, subnet groups, maintenance windows, Multi-AZ deployments, and read replicasHigh Availability & Disaster RecoveryImplement and validate HA/DR strategies including Multi-AZ deployments, failover configurations, and cross-region replicationDevelop and maintain disaster recovery runbooks with defined RTO and RPO targetsBackup, Restore & Environment ManagementManage automated backups, snapshots, retention policies, and cross-region copiesPerform regular restore testing and support environment refreshes for Dev, QA, and UATPerformance Monitoring & TuningMonitor and troubleshoot performance using CloudWatch, Performance Insights, and Enhanced MonitoringAnalyze query performance, wait events, and system behavior to implement tuning improvements across all supported enginesSecurity & ComplianceEnforce least-privilege access using IAM and database rolesImplement VPC-based network isolation, security groups, encryption at rest (KMS), and encryption in transit (TLS)Configure auditing and logging through CloudWatch LogsPatching & UpgradesPlan and execute database engine upgrades and patching with minimal downtimeCoordinate testing and implement blue/green or staged deployment strategies where applicableAutomation & Infrastructure as CodeAutomate database operations using scripting (AWS CLI/SDKs)Partner with DevOps to manage infrastructure using Terraform or CloudFormationIntegrate database checks into CI/CD pipelinesMigration & Data MovementSupport migrations using AWS DMS and AWS Schema Conversion ToolUtilize native tools including Oracle Data Pump, pg_dump/pg_restore, and SQL Server backup/restore to S3Engine-Specific AdministrationPerform engine-specific maintenance: Oracle: statistics management and maintenance operationsAurora PostgreSQL: vacuum tuning and extension managementSQL Server: index/statistics maintenance and SQL Agent schedulingCollaboration & LeadershipAct as a liaison between database teams and cross-functional stakeholdersMentor junior DBAs and provide technical guidanceCollaborate with developers and platform teams to optimize database design and performanceDocumentation & StandardsMaintain detailed documentation including runbooks, standards, automation scripts, and health check reportingEstablish and enforce database best practicesQualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related fieldRelevant certifications such as: AWS Certified Database – SpecialtyOracle Certified Professional (OCP)Microsoft SQL Server certifications (or equivalent hands-on experience)Required Skills5+ years of hands-on DBA experience in AWS environments, specifically with Amazon RDS and AuroraMandatory experience with BOTH: Oracle databases on Amazon RDSAmazon RDS platform (including administration, configuration, and operations)Strong hands-on experience with: Oracle on RDS (backup/recovery, parameter & option groups, performance tuning)Aurora PostgreSQL (cluster architecture, failover, scaling, vacuum strategy, extensions)SQL Server on RDS (index/statistics maintenance, SQL Agent, backup/restore)Deep understanding of AWS networking and database security (VPCs, IAM, security groups, KMS, TLS)Experience with monitoring and diagnostics tools (CloudWatch, Performance Insights, logs)Strong scripting and automation skills (Python, Bash, PowerShell, AWS CLI/SDKs)Experience with database migration tools (AWS DMS, SCT, native utilities)Proven leadership, mentoring, and cross-team collaboration skillsStrong communication, documentation, and problem-solving abilitiesPreferred SkillsStrong results orientation with consistent delivery against goals and deadlinesDeep technical expertise across database platforms and cloud environmentsCommitment to continuous learning and professional developmentExcellent written and verbal communication skills across technical and non-technical audiencesStrong analytical and problem-solving capabilitiesEffective project management and prioritization skills
