The Assistant Principal for Academics is responsible for collaborating with the Principal in the overall implementation of the school's academic programs. The Assistant Principal oversees the implementation of the AOB Curriculum, ensuring alignment with educational standards and the desired outcomes of the Archdiocesan curriculum. They maintain and review student academic records and ensure that effective communication and partnerships are fostered with parents and students regarding academic progress and support.The Assistant Principal works directly with faculty to promote and support exceptional instructional practices and communicates regularly with the administration team and teachers on all matters, especially those related to academic policies, teacher supervision, and parental concerns.The Assistant Principal serves as a visible leader, collaborative partner, and pastoral presence for students, staff, and families.Essential FunctionsTeacher Support and Classroom ManagementAssist with the review of lesson plans and learning management systems; provide feedback and support for probationary teachers and others as requestedAssist with formal and informal observations of classroom and special area teachersOrganize and implement orientation programs for new teachers and instructional assistantsMaintain a mentoring program for new and probationary teachersDemonstrate, model, and coach faculty in developing activities and strategies for the continuous improvement of instructionCoordinate and regularly attend grade-level and departmental planning meetingsCollaborate with the Principal to develop teacher evaluation goalsInstructional & Operational SupportOrganize, maintain, and monitor a sequential curriculum program aligned with the school's educational philosophyCoordinate MAP testing dates and schedulesCoordinate, supervise, and design monthly professional development sessions in partnership with professional growth organization trainersInvolve relevant faculty and oversee the selection of textbooks and instructional resourcesProvide faculty and staff with relevant curriculum updatesCoordinate end-of-year math placement testing with the Director of Admissions, Academic Advisor, and associated teaching teamsServe as the Title I, II, and IV liaison and site supervisorFaith & Community LeadershipFacilitate professional growth through catechist training experiences in accordance with Archdiocese of Baltimore guidelinesCollaborate with the Principal on Extended Classroom ExperiencesAttend all faculty meetings and relevant evening and weekend school events for grades PK–8Perform additional duties, on a temporary or permanent basis, as assigned by the PrincipalPosition QualificationsPracticing Catholic who is fully able to model Christian values, adhere to the teachings of the Church, and actively participate in the sacramental life of the Church.Bachelor's degree required; master's degree in Educational Leadership or a related field preferredValid Maryland teaching certification required; administrator certification preferred or willingness to pursuePrior teaching experience required; administrative experience preferredStrong background in classroom management and instructionKnowledge of child development and age-appropriate lessons for grades PK–8Commitment to Catholic education and willingness to support the mission of the ChurchSkills & Attributes Calm, consistent, and fair approach to faculty training and supportStrong communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to build trust with students, staff, and familiesOrganized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple responsibilitiesCollaborative mindset with a servant-leader approachReflective, solution-oriented, and growth-focused Work Environment This position requires an active presence throughout the school day, including classrooms, hallways, and outdoor spaces.
