CLASSROOM AIDE - EAST AVE LOCATION

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:30AM - 4:00PMLOCATION: 2617 East Ave, Rochester, NY 14610 ** This location is NOT on a bus line. Students at East Avenue range in age from 16 to at most 22yrs old. They work every day to develop their independent and work skills as the work towards graduation. As an agency found on principles of inclusion, Mary Cariola Center fosters an environment where all are welcome, and our differences are respected and valued.Duties And ResponsibilitiesSupervise students throughout the school day while implementing assigned individualized educational and therapeutic programs both inside and outside the classroom (therapeutic pool program, specially designed physical education, etc.)Engage in any necessary lifting, moving and/or positioning tasks for studentsFacilitate improved gross motor, fine motor and range of motion skillsPromote and facilitate students’ self-care and other Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)Assist students with toileting, dressing and eating as needed including modeling appropriate behavior and using therapeutic equipment and/or feeding techniquesProvide behavioral support, including implementing agency approved emergency physical interventionsHelp maintain a positive, safe and healthy educational environment, addressing students; health, medical and safety needsInteract with students in an age-appropriate manner, respecting their privacy, dignity, and confidentialityDemonstrate initiative and effectively engage with students during transitionHandle and use student equipment safely and appropriatelyAssist with maintaining and caring for the classroom, equipment, materials and activity areasObserve and record students’ performance and behaviors, sharing relevant information with the classroom teacherCollaborate and communicate effectively with classroom and professional team members while maintaining confidentiality and professionalismHelp prepare classroom projects and materials, including setup and cleanupAssist the students with individual and small group activitiesRespectfully follow direction from Teachers, Teacher Assistants, clinicians, supervisors, or designeesInteract politely and professionally with parents, caregivers, and other visitorsAll other duties as assignedMinimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GEDAbility to read, write, speak and understand English including interpreting documents such as safety rules and policy and procedure manualsMust be at least 18 years of ageEEO StatementWe are an equal opportunity employer.
