Behavior Support Technician (25-26 SY)

General Definition of WorkThe behavior support technician (BST), under general supervision, performs support work with minimal decision-making discretion promoting the safety, well-being, and educational access of students by supporting school staff during crisis situations related to student behavior and mental health issues. Position will conduct functional behavior assessments, collaborate with staff to develop and implement behavior intervention plans, and implement crisis prevention and intervention strategies as needed for students with disabilities. Employee performs school-based work to carry out Board of Education policies under the direction of the assigned supervisor.QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.Essential FunctionsAdhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and proceduresEnforce administration policies and rules governing students; ensure students understand the student code of conductSupervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums, or on field tripsProvide one-on-one support to students in crisis situations using Crisis Prevention and Intervention CPI strategies as needed for students with disabilitiesUse CPI strategies to assist students in modifying behaviors with an emphasis on appropriate consequences and encouraging personal responsibilityConduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and collaborate with staff when developing and implementing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)Monitor and provide feedback to staff on implementation of BIPsCollaborate with staff during individual student crisis situationsCollect, analyze, and assess data related to student behaviorParticipate in the daily bus, car and van transportation duties involving student arrival and departure to and from schoolsSupport initiatives to foster a positive school climateParticipate in professional development and other meetingsPerform related duties as assignedKnowledge, Skills, AbilitiesKnowledge and understanding of the principles, practices, and procedures of public school system policiesKnowledge of local, state, and federal regulations and laws pertaining to exceptional children and working with students in a mental health/behavior crisisKnowledge of conducting FBA, using CPI strategies, and developing BIPsAbility to diffuse differences through conflict resolutionAbility to learn and use specialized tools, equipment or software related to business needsAbility to implement local, state, and federal rules, guidelines, and procedures into daily business operationsAbility to communicate effectivelyAbility to reason, make judgments, and maintain effective working relationshipsAbility to employ positive communication skills in all settings/mediumsAbility to problem-solve utilizing sound judgmentAbility to maintain confidentiality regarding school system businessAbility to take initiative, work independently, and exercise sound judgementDemonstrated ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven, rapidly changing team environmentEducation and ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredCPI training requiredMinimum of three (3) years of experience working with student behavior requiredEquivalent combination of education and experience
