Chief Veterinarian Position OverviewThe Chief Veterinarian serves as the senior medical leader for PRCKC, overseeing all veterinary operations, clinical protocols, and staff. Reporting to the Executive Director, you will drive clinical excellence and develop innovative programs to expand access to care for underserved communities. This role ensures our services align with the organization’s mission to improve the lives of pets and the people who love them.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesClinical Leadership: As the primary medical authority, you will provide oversight for all services, including spay/neuter, wellness, and urgent care, ensuring protocols meet best practices and regulatory requirements (DEA and state board).Staff Leadership & Development: You will lead, mentor, and supervise a diverse medical team to foster a high-performing culture. This includes managing the full talent lifecycle: recruitment, retention, and professional development, while optimizing staffing plans for clinic efficiency.Quality, Safety & Operations: You will maintain rigorous standards for infection control, anesthesia, and surgical safety while monitoring outcomes for continuous improvement. Additionally, you will partner with leadership on budget planning, supply procurement, and financial sustainability.Program & Community Engagement: You will drive the implementation of new service lines, such as mobile care and outreach initiatives, while representing PRCKC within the broader animal welfare sector. This includes building partnerships with shelters, universities, and industry organizations.Compliance & Risk: You will ensure adherence to professional standards, maintain accurate drug logs, and support organizational risk management and incident reviews.Requirements & CompetenciesEducation/Licensure: DVM from an accredited school; a Missouri or Kansas license in good standing (or ability to obtain).Experience: Minimum 5 years of clinical experience; 2-3 years of leadership experience is preferred.
