Operator (Pulp Tech)
Job DescriptionJob summaryPerforms the operation of all equipment and manual and automatic processes on the site to meet production and all goal areas for the facility on a day to day basis. Level will be determined by skill & ability. Position is straight day or night 12-hour shifts. It is a 2-2-3 schedule.Summary Of Essential Job FunctionsSustains knowledge, skills and abilities required for equipment and processes assigned. Operates, checks, and monitors boiler and other utilities for the facility. At least one of the technicians on site at all times will be fully capable of operating the facility from the DCS control system. All will eventually require this skill during tenure. Quality, production is managed and schedules met. Field operates and troubleshoots one or more as assigned of the material handling, pulp process, evaporator, recovery, utilities, warehouse areas. Assists other areas as needed including thermoforming and packaging. Receives material into the warehouse and ships final production managing costs/usages. Controls site safety, security and plans with maintenance work, contractors, and plant visitors. Controls environmental discharges and good manufacturing practices. Performs preventive maintenance of the equipment and facility. Tests and maintains knowledge of the processes, production, and equipment skills. Works as part of the team, communicates well with personnel at all organizational levels in a professional manner, and maintains a respectful work environment. Availability to work rotating shifts, weekends and holidays. Minimum RequirementsKnowledge of plant safety, environment and good manufacturing practicesGood understanding of process control and/or excellent mechanical aptitudeHigh school education with above average math & communication skillsIn order to be considered for this position candidates are required to submit an application for employment and willing to take a drug test and submit to a background investigation as part of the selection process.Experience Required5 years plant manufacturing or similar experience or equivalent demonstration. Experience should include liquid and dry unit operations such as pumps, heat exchangers, reactors, evaporation, material handling, and etc. Chemical processing is desired. Pulp & Paper experience is a plus.Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to talk and/or listen. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to grasp, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, to reach with hands and arms, climb ladders and stairs up to 80 feet, balance, stoop, kneel and crouch and push or pull on objects. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. This position will require the use of safety equipment and clothing, including eye and hearing protection, hard hats, and respiratory protection and safety shoes.
