Senior Java Software Engineer

In this senior engineering role, you will help design nd build systems that translate research insights into live trading activity. You’ll collaborate closely with quantitative researchers, portfolio managers, and engineering teams to deliver scalable, production-grade platforms that support systematic investment workflows.This is a high-impact position focused on both hands-on architecture and technical leadership within complex, distributed environmentsResponsibilities:As a Senior Software Engineer focused on portfolio implementation systems, you will take ownership of key components within the investment technology stack, including:Designing and building platforms that take research signals, apply portfolio constraints and optimizations, and generate executable trading ordersLeading development of distributed, microservice-based systems operating at high scale and high reliability requirementsDefining architectural approaches for performance-sensitive systems, balancing trade-offs across speed, flexibility, and maintainabilityDriving delivery of cross-functional engineering initiatives spanning multiple services and teamsProviding technical leadership to small engineering groups (typically 2–5 engineers), including design guidance, planning, and execution oversightMentoring engineers through code reviews, architecture discussions, and hands-on technical coachingPartnering with global teams across research, portfolio management, and engineering to deliver robust production systemsQualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with strong expertise in Java Production or research-environment experience using PythonStrong track record of designing and operating large-scale distributed systemsExperience with microservice architectures and related technologies such as Java-based services, search/indexing tools, in-memory data stores, messaging systems (e.g., RabbitMQ/ActiveMQ), and relational databases (PostgreSQL or MS SQL Server)Strong engineering fundamentals: clean code practices, design documentation, peer review discipline, and automated testingExperience tuning and operating high-performance systems in production environmentsFamiliarity with observability/monitoring tools and using metrics to improve system reliability and performanceAbility to lead technical initiatives end-to-end, including risk management and delivery planningExperience breaking down requirements into technical specifications and actionable work plansStrong interest in financial markets and systematic investment processesIdeal Candidate:A technical owner who focuses on outcomes and system reliability, not just code deliveryComfortable leading ambiguous, complex initiatives from concept through production rolloutEffective mentor who develops engineers through feedback, coaching, and collaborationAble to balance hands-on engineering with leadership responsibilitiesCollaborative across disciplines and comfortable working in globally distributed teamsGrounded in engineering rigor, transparency, and thoughtful decision-making
