PLC Programmer / SCADA Subject Matter Expert (SME) Location: Remote (with frequent travels to Juno Beach, FL, USA) Contract Duration: 12 months Overview of the Role We are seeking a highly skilled PLC Programmer / SCADA Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and renewable energy projects. In this role, you will drive seamless integration, programming, and commissioning of advanced PLC and SCADA systems that power the future of clean energy. Your expertise will ensure operational excellence and support groundbreaking energy solutions across large-scale renewable projects. Key Responsibilities PLC Programming & Development Expert-level PLC programming for BESS and solar projects using Schneider M340/M580 platformsDevelop, modify, and optimize control logic for utility-scale energy storage systemsCreate and maintain standardized PLC code libraries and templatesImplement advanced control algorithms for hybrid PV-BESS operations SCADA Integration & Communications Configure and troubleshoot Modbus communications between PLCs, inverters, and SCADA systemsIntegrate PLCs with Ignition HMI platforms and historian systemsEstablish robust communication protocols for real-time monitoring and controlSupport OPC server configuration and data exchange protocols Testing & Commissioning Support Lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) proceduresPerform comprehensive PLC code validation and system integration testingSupport commissioning teams with on-site troubleshooting and system optimizationExecute Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and Large Generator Interconnection Agreement (LGIA) testing requirements Technical Leadership & Collaboration Serve as technical SME for PLC programming standards and best practicesCoordinate with SCADA leads, project managers, and vendor teamsProvide technical guidance for control system architecture decisions Documentation & Standards Develop and maintain PLC programming documentation and proceduresCreate detailed Functional Requirements Documents (FRDs) for control systemsEstablish coding standards and version control protocolsSupport regulatory compliance documentation (NERC CIP, cybersecurity) Required Skills & Qualifications Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field5+ years of PLC programming experience (Schneider Electric platforms preferred)Expert knowledge of Modbus, DNP3, and industrial communication protocolsExperience with Ignition SCADA platform and HMI developmentStrong understanding of power systems and utility-scale energy projectsProven experience in utility-scale renewable energy or power generation projectsKnowledge of BESS control systems, inverters, and energy storage technologiesFamiliarity with grid interconnection requirements and utility standardsExperience with FAT/SAT testing procedures and commissioning protocolsFull accountability for PPA, LGIA, and OEM testing completionAbility to travel up to 25% for project commissioning supportStrong analytical and troubleshooting skillsExcellent communication and documentation abilitiesNERC CIP cybersecurity awareness preferred Perks of Working with AP Recruiters & Associates Competitive pay up to $74.98/hour (DOE)Career growth opportunities in the fast-expanding renewable energy sectorDedicated recruiter support to help you succeed on assignmentExposure to cutting-edge energy storage and SCADA technologies About the Client Our client is one of the worlds largest leaders in renewable energy, pioneering innovation in wind, solar, and energy storage solutions.
