RF Design & Optimization Engineer
Overview
In this role you will help build the first standalone 5G broadband network in the US, focusing on RF design and optimization for macro deployments. You will collaborate with local cross-functional teams and RF/RAN groups to refine link budgets, site selections, and performance parameters. The position emphasizes hands-on design work, data-driven improvements, and close coordination with field and operations teams. This is a key opportunity to shape nationwide 5G deployment and RF performance.
ResponsibilitiesPerform RF design activities for the first standalone 5G broadband network developmentOptimize end-to-end RF design, propagation modeling and prediction for Macro Cell deploymentDetermine equipment and power configurationsCollaborate with eNB/RAN and UE teams on RF solutions and adjust RF link budgets per siteConduct site candidate evaluation, selection, and site walksWork with RF Management to set design criteria, link budget, and traffic analysis; update performance parametersSupport network design and ongoing improvements through RF analysisCoordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure deployments meet operations requirementsMaintain and update RF design documentation and site databases as needed
Key requirementsBSEE/BSCS or related field and/or at least 3 years of LTE RF Design experience5+ years overall wireless experience in Design/Optimization or Operations roles including RF support for Site Acquisition and constructionProficiency in 4G/5G and NR theory and practical applicationExperience with macro and small cell RF designs, RF KPIs, and RF link budgets for 3GPP technologiesAbility to set up, calibrate, and process data from LTE design and optimization toolsKnowledge of propagation/planning tools (e.g., Planet, Atoll) and model calibrationExperience with drive test data post-processing, map generation, frequency planning, and interference analysis (Windcatcher/Actix/Accuver)Understanding of site co-location requirements and external interference analysisCross-functional collaborationStrong problem-solving and analytical thinkingAttention to detailRF design and optimization4G/5G NR theory and practiceRF link budgets for 3GPP technologies
