Full Stack Engineer, Manufacturing Data PlatformHayward, CA (on-site)About 1XWe build humanoid robots that work alongside people to solve labor shortages and create abundance. The RoleOur Manufacturing Data Platform is the backbone of robot traceability - capturing every component, calibration, and telemetry reading from factory birth through the entire product lifecycle. We need a versatile engineer who can own this platform end-to-end.As a Full Stack Engineer on the Manufacturing Data Platform, you will be the technical backbone of our Industrial Data Platform (IDP) - owning everything from edge data ingestion to cloud APIs to technician-facing applications. You'll design database schemas, build real-time telemetry pipelines, implement secure authentication, and create intuitive interfaces for factory technicians and end users. This role requires someone who can context-switch between backend services, frontend applications, data architecture, and security implementation. This role is ideal for engineers who thrive on ownership and breadth - you'll touch every layer of the stack and see your work directly impact robot manufacturing quality. You WillBackend DevelopmentDesign and build RESTful APIs and WebSocket services using FastAPI on GCP Cloud RunImplement recording mode orchestration: trigger self-checks, capture telemetry, manage session lifecycleBuild configuration push/pull APIs with version control and rollback capabilityCreate data pipelines for high-frequency telemetry ingestion (200Hz, 350KB/s per robot)Frontend DevelopmentBuild Progressive Web App (PWA) for factory technicians: QR scanning, robot diagnostics, recording controlsCreate admin dashboards for fleet management, user administration, and audit log viewingImplement real-time telemetry visualization with WebSocket integration (<500ms latency)Design mobile-first interfaces optimized for factory floor use (large touch targets, high contrast)Data ArchitectureDesign and optimize database schemas: Cloud SQL (PostgreSQL) for relational data, Bigtable for time-series telemetryArchitect data storage strategy: immutable data (OTP), versioned calibration (EEPROM sync), time-series streamingBuild the robot genealogy system linking components, calibration, and manufacturing eventsImplement data lifecycle management from EOL Data Fusion Station through product lifecycleSecurity & InfrastructureImplement OAuth 2.0 authentication using Google Identity PlatformDesign and enforce Role-Based Access Control (RBAC): Viewer, Technician, Engineer, Admin, End UserConfigure TLS/mTLS for edge-to-cloud communicationBuild comprehensive audit logging for compliance and traceabilityManage infrastructure using Terraform and CI/CD pipelines with Cloud BuildIntegration & EdgeIntegrate with MQTT Sparkplug B for edge gateway communication via EMQX brokerDesign store-and-forward patterns for offline data buffering on edge gatewaysBuild synchronization logic between local robot storage (EEPROM) and cloud databasesCollaborate with Robot OS teams on telemetry schemas and command protocolsMust Have5+ years of software engineering experience spanning backend and frontend developmentStrong proficiency in Python (FastAPI, SQLAlchemy) and TypeScript (React, Next.js)Experience with cloud platforms (GCP preferred): Cloud Run, Cloud SQL, Pub/Sub, BigQuerySolid understanding of database design: relational modeling, time-series databases, query optimizationExperience with real-time systems: WebSockets, message queues, or streaming pipelinesUnderstanding of authentication and authorization: OAuth 2.0, JWT, RBAC implementationExperience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and CI/CD pipelinesAbility to work independently and own projects end-to-endNice to HaveExperience with MQTT, Sparkplug B, or industrial IoT protocolsBackground in manufacturing, robotics, or hardware data systemsExperience with Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) and offline-first designFamiliarity with time-series databases (Bigtable, InfluxDB, TimescaleDB)Experience with data visualization libraries (D3.js, Recharts, ECharts)Understanding of edge computing: NVIDIA Jetson, industrial gatewaysExperience with 3D visualization (Three.js) for robot status monitoringSecurity certifications or experience with compliance frameworks (SOC 2)Benefits & CompensationSalary Range: $180,000 – $227,000 + EquityHealth, dental, and vision insurance401(k) with company matchPaid time off and holidaysEqual Opportunity Employer1X is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
