Community Health Corps Montana is an AmeriCorps program administered by the Montana Office of Rural Health & Area Health Education Center (MORH/AHEC) at Montana State University. CHCM mobilizes members to serve alongside community-based organizations across Montana to strengthen mental health and substance use supports, improve chronic disease prevention and management, and address social determinants of health such as food access, housing, and care coordination.
Position Summary
This opportunity is made possible through Community Health Corps Montana (CHCM), an AmeriCorps program connecting service-minded individuals with organizations advancing health access and community wellness across the state.
As a Community Impact & Outreach Coordinator, you’ll help communities use data and collaboration to drive positive change. Members in these positions will collect and analyze local health information, support community surveys or assessments, and engage residents, partners, and organizations around key health issues — from behavioral health and recovery services to chronic disease prevention and health access. Your service will help transform information into action by building local capacity, strengthening partnerships, and supporting programs that make health systems more responsive to community needs.
Key Responsibilities May Include
Each member’s specific responsibilities will vary by host site placement, but may include the following service activities.
Data Management & Assessment: Collect, organize, and analyze community-level health data to identify trends and gaps in services.
Community Engagement: Coordinate outreach events, focus groups, or surveys that gather input from residents and local partners.
Partnership Development: Build relationships with health departments, recovery organizations, schools, and nonprofits to strengthen cross-sector collaboration.
Program Support: Contribute to communications, reporting, and resource development for projects addressing health access, recovery, and prevention.
Evaluation & Storytelling: Help visualize data and share impact stories through brief reports, dashboards, or community presentations.
Capacity Building: Develop tools, templates, or process improvements that help organizations sustain their work after your service term ends.
Professional Development: Participate in structured CHCM training, monthly program calls, and the statewide Service Symposium.
AmeriCorps Compliance: Members may not engage in prohibited activities while counting service hours as defined in 45 CFR §2520.65 (e.g., political activity, religious instruction, union organizing). CHCM members’ service will not duplicate or displace staff duties (45 CFR §2540.100).
