Position Title:Staff Software Engineer / Architect - Java Modernization (AWS / Kubernetes)Location: St. Louis, MOJDWe are looking for astaff-level software engineer / architectto lead the modernization of a largescale, mission-critical Java platform. This role is hands-on and focused onrewriting and re-architecting existing systemsusing modern Java, Spring Boot, and cloud-native patterns on AWS.What You'll DoModernize a legacy Java platform toJava 21 and Spring BootRe-architect monolithic components intowell-structured, cloud-native servicesDesign and build services forAWS EKS and/or OpenShiftDefine execution models, service boundaries, and deployment patternsDrive architectural decisions around performance, scalability, and reliabilityWork closely with platform, DevOps, and cloud infrastructure teamsMentor senior engineers and set engineering standardsOwn solutions end-to-end - from design through productionWhat We're Looking ForStaff-level experience building and modernizinglarge Java systemsStrong hands-on experience withJava (17+ preferred, 21 ideal)andSpring BootDeep understanding ofdistributed systems and system designPractical experience deploying applications onAWS , preferablyEKSSolid Kubernetes knowledge (EKS and/or OpenShift)Experience containerizing applications and running them on a scaleStrong grasp of performance tuning, JVM behavior, and low-latency systemsAbility to operate as botharchitect and hands-on engineerNice to HaveExperience migrating from monoliths to cloud-native architecturesExposure to eventing, messaging, or streaming systems (Kafka, MQ, etc.)Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-codeBackground in financial services, payments, or high-throughput systemsWhy This RoleOpportunity toshape the future architectureof a critical platformWork oncomplex, high-scale systemswhere design decisions matterHigh ownership, real technical impact, and long-term relevance
