A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A RESIDENTIAL MENTAL HEALTH THERAPIST
As a Residential Mental Health Therapist, you conduct face-to-face therapeutic sessions with clients and their families. You also complete diagnostic assessments and individualized planning. This includes plans for addressing problematic behaviors. Collaboratively, you meet with other teams to review client progress, assess needs, and work on ways to build families. You participate in the intake process by reviewing referral packets, attending the admission meeting, and contributing to the assessment of the appropriateness of placement.
As a clinical leader, you work to ensure a consistent, positive, and strengths-based therapeutic environment aligned with our overarching philosophy of CARE while encouraging staff to maintain healthy attitudes and boundaries. When necessary, you provide crisis intervention. You also participate in transition planning for residents to help facilitate their future needs and subsequent placement. Conscientiously, you keep all documentation in order and up to date. You find working with youth and families in a constructive environment to be highly rewarding!
QUALIFICATIONS FOR A RESIDENTIAL MENTAL HEALTH THERAPIST
Master's degree in social work or another license-eligible human services field (strong preference for an Illinois license in clinical social work or clinical professional counseling
Ability and willingness to complete the children and residential experiences (CARE) and therapeutic crisis intervention (TCI) training
Valid Illinois driver's license and proof of insurance
2 years of professional experience in a similar human services setting is preferred but multiple factors will be taken into consideration. Are you patient, respectful, tactful, and calm under pressure? Do you have excellent interpersonal skills? Are you able to communicate effectively with diverse people in different roles, both verbally and in writing? Do you have strong organizational and time management skills? If so, you might just be perfect for this Residential Mental Health Therapist position!
WORK SCHEDULE
This full-time clinical social work position enjoys flexible scheduling, typically working 40-hour weeks on Monday - Friday - mostly during the day with occasional evenings as well as participation in a 24-hour on-call rotation.
