Assembler - Higher Level Assembly - Electronics Manufacturing

Surface Mount Technology Corporation is looking for dependable people interested in detailed assembly work within an electronics manufacturing environment. Higher Level Assembly at SMT includes assembly work performed beyond the printed circuit board manufacturing process. Depending on experience and demonstrated capability, employees may perform basic or more advanced assembly operations while following detailed work instructions, assembly drawings and quality requirements. Previous electronics, electromechanical or manufacturing assembly experience is valuable, but it is not required for every level. SMT also hires and trains entry-level candidates who demonstrate reliability, attention to detail, learning ability and a genuine interest in developing manufacturing skills. SMT's existing Assembler progression intentionally supports multiple entry points. Assembler C includes basic Higher Level Assembly work and other foundational assembly activities, while Assembler B includes advanced Higher Level Assembly work along with increased process capability and responsibility. *What You May Do* Responsibilities vary based on experience and demonstrated capability and may include: * Perform basic or advanced Higher Level Assembly work. * Follow detailed assembly instructions and assembly drawings. * Read and work from bills of material and applicable manufacturing documentation. * Prepare components and materials for assembly. * Assemble parts and components according to documented requirements. * Use hand tools and appropriate production equipment. * Apply labels and complete required production documentation. * Inspect work for accuracy and workmanship. * Identify and communicate assembly issues or discrepancies. * Support testing or other production activities when required. * Learn SMT manufacturing procedures, component recognition and workmanship standards. * At more experienced levels, independently perform more complex assembly work and assist other assembly employees as needed. * Perform other related assembly work based on production requirements and demonstrated capability. The current SMT Assembler C classification includes component preparation, basic Higher Level Assembly, test-operator support, depaneling, simple semi-automatic equipment, labeling, following assembly instructions and drawings, and working to IPC standards. Assembler B adds advanced Higher Level Assembly, first-article activity, detailed work-instruction creation and more advanced manufacturing processes. *Who Should Apply* We want to hear from candidates who fit any of these paths. *Experienced Electronics / Assembly Candidate* You may have experience in: * electronics manufacturing; * higher-level or final assembly; * electromechanical assembly; * electrical assembly; * electronics production; * test or inspection; * wiring or related technical assembly; * reading manufacturing drawings and work instructions; * working in a controlled manufacturing environment. Experience in EMS, electronics manufacturing, medical electronics, aerospace/defense, industrial electronics or a similar environment is especially valuable. *Related / Transferable Candidate* You may not have electronics-manufacturing experience but have successfully worked in areas such as: * mechanical assembly; * manufacturing assembly; * small-part assembly; * electrical or wiring work; * production equipment operation; * test or inspection; * other detailed manufacturing environments. SMT will evaluate whether those skills and work habits are transferable to Higher Level Assembly. *Entry-Level / Trainable Candidate* You may have little or no directly related manufacturing experience. SMT will consider entry-level candidates who demonstrate: * dependable attendance and follow-through; * attention to detail; * ability to learn; * ability to follow written and visual instructions; * comfort working with hand tools and detailed assemblies; * patience and ability to remain focused; * willingness to accept instruction and coaching; * genuine interest in learning electronics manufacturing. Prior electronics experience is helpful, but it is not the only path into SMT's Assembler C level. *What Matters in This Job* Successful candidates need to be able to: * Work carefully and accurately. * Follow detailed written instructions and assembly drawings. * Stay focused while completing repetitive or detailed work. * Learn new manufacturing processes. * Use hand tools safely and correctly. * Recognize when something does not match the instructions and communicate the issue. * Work effectively with other employees. * Accept coaching and apply what has been taught. * Demonstrate dependable attendance and follow-through. *Experience, Skill Level and Pay* SMT maintains defined Assembler skill levels. Starting level and compensation are based on relevant previous experience and demonstrated capability. *Assembler C* provides an entry path for candidates who need training and development in SMT assembly processes. *Assembler B* generally reflects increased assembly proficiency, including advanced Higher Level Assembly and greater independence. *Assembler A* represents advanced assembly capability and broader technical proficiency within SMT's Assembler classification. Candidates should not assume that years of general manufacturing experience automatically determine classification or starting pay. SMT will evaluate the relevance and depth of previous experience and demonstrated ability before determining appropriate placement.
