Electrical Testing Engineer
DescriptionThe Electrical Testing Engineer is responsible for performing testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of electrical systems in renewable energy projects such as solar PV plants, wind farms, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and substations. This role ensures electrical equipment and systems operate safely, reliably, and in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project specifications. Concurrently, perform and adhere to all training requirements and schedules. Training program requirements are expected to be completed within the designated time frame.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned as needed)Adheres to, supports and complies with all company safety and environmental policies and practices. Ensure all employees, contractors and visitors conduct themselves safely and within company policies and regulatory guidelines.Complete required annual safety training.Willingness to travel and work extended hours during commissioning phases as requiredTravel up to 30% (project dependent)Electrical Testing & CommissioningPerform pre commissioning, commissioning, and acceptance testing of: Medium and low voltage equipmentPower transformersSwitchgear (AIS/GIS)Inverters, converters, and PCS systemsProtection relaysCables and grounding systemsExecute tests including but not limited to: Insulation resistance (IR) and polarization index (PI)Contact resistanceHigh potential (Hi Pot) testingCT/PT testingRelay protection functional and trip testingPower quality and harmonics analysisTroubleshooting & SupportDiagnose and resolve electrical system failures or abnormal performance during testing or operationSupport root cause analysis (RCA) for equipment faults and grid related eventsProvide on site technical support during energization and startup activitiesDocumentation & ReportingDevelop and execute testing procedures, checklists, and method statementsRecord test results and prepare detailed commissioning and test reportsEnsure documentation complies with project, client, and regulatory requirementsSafety & ComplianceFollow all site safety rules, lock out/tag out (LOTO), and energized work proceduresEnsure testing activities comply with applicable codes and standards such as: NEC / NFPA 70IEEEIECNERC (where applicable)Promote a culture of safety and quality on all renewable energy sitesCollaboration & CommunicationCoordinate testing activities with project managers, EPC teams, utilities, and OEMsSupport grid interconnection and utility witness testingParticipate in design reviews to identify testing and commissioning requirements earlySalary: $130,000 - $150,000 annuallyRequirementsQUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California. This salary range may also be modified in the future, depending upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location.
