Director, Fleet
JOB
SUMMARY
The Fleet Director is responsible for the management and daily operation of the Ascension Parish Government (APG)
fleet program, which includes all motor vehicles, heavy equipment, tractors, trailers, mowers, etc., with an approximate
25-member staff. The incumbent is responsible for budget preparation, licensure requirements, business planning, cost
and inventory control, and fleet safety.
MAJOR DUTIES
Responsible for APG equipment and vehicle annual inventory and accountability, surplus and auction process
Maintains an accurate accountability of APG’s fleet licensure and training requirements by weight and class for
vehicles and equipment
Responsible for maintenance and operation of the APG fueling station, accounting coordination on fuel purchases
and expenditures
Responsible for APG internal customer department’s vehicle and equipment annual budget request justification
Responsible for conducting supervisory responsibilities in accordance with APG’s policies and applicable laws
including training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, time and attendance, appraising
performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems
Responsible for maintaining, installing and reporting of the APG Global Positioning System (GPS) devices and
software
Responsible for APG’s vehicle assignment program
Organize and prepare supporting documentation for Request for Proposals (RFP), Request for Quotations (RFQ),
and bids on capitol purchases of equipment as directed. Specifications for each item of equipment or vehicle
purchased to fit the need and purpose of this item and in compliance with state purchasing guidelines.
Any other duties as assigned
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience: An Associate’s Degree from an accredited college in any field and (6) years of
progressively higher-level, directly related experience in fleet operation management, which includes supervisory
experience of a medium sized staff, or
Combined Secondary Education and Experience: 8 years combined education (post high school) and
progressively higher-level, directly related experience, or
Directly Related Experience: A minimum of 8 years of progressively higher-level, directly related experience in
fleet operation management, which includes supervisory experience of a medium sized staff
Public sector experience is preferred, but not required.
**National Association of Fleet Administrators (NAFA) Fleet Management Association certification: Certified
Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM) is highly preferred.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS – CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
The incumbent is required to have a current, and the ability to maintain, state of Louisiana driver’s license.
The incumbent is subject to a pre-employment physical and drug test with random drug testing thereafter.
The position is designated as an Emergency Essential Tier II position and as such is subject to mandatory recall to
the traditional or emergency worksite. Failure to do so may lead to disciplinary actions up to and include
termination of employment.
