Delivery Driver - CDL Class A
About Shepherd Electric SupplySince 1892, Shepherd Electric Supply has been the first call when complex, time-critical electrical challenges need to be solved, and reliability truly matters. We move materials accurately and on time, so contractors stay on schedule, projects stay on track, and customers never have to wonder if we will come through. Our success comes from people who take pride in doing things the right way — safely, accurately, and with care for teammates and customers alike. If you want to do work that matters at a company that notices, this is the place. Why This Role MattersEvery delivery you make is a promise kept. When a contractor is mid-job and waiting on wire, conduit, or gear, your truck showing up on time is what keeps the project moving. That is not a small thing. That is the whole thing. At Shepherd, drivers are not just logistics — they are the last mile of a commitment we have made to every customer. You carry Shepherd’s reputation on every run. How you show up, communicate, and take care of the load is how our customers experience us.Work Shift And HoursMonday - Friday, 6:00am - 2:30pmCompensation DetailsThe expected pay rate for this position is starting between $31.00 - $35.00 per hour depending on experience. How This Role Connects To Our CompassWe Keep Our Promises: You deliver what was promised, when it was promised. Routes are run on time, loads are complete and correct, and customers never have to call wondering where their material is. If something changes, you communicate early — not after the fact.We Stay Hungry: You know your routes, stay sharp on DOT compliance, and look for ways to make your runs more efficient. You ask questions, take feedback, and bring problems forward so they get solved — not ignored. We Grow Together: You work as part of a warehouse and dispatch team. Your communication, your on-time returns, and your reliability create the conditions for the whole team to succeed. You make their jobs easier, not harder. We Own It: You take responsibility for your load, your vehicle, and your delivery. Pre-trip inspections are done right, not skipped. If there is a discrepancy or a problem on the road, you call it in — you do not hope it resolves itself. We Go Above & Beyond: You treat every delivery like the customer is watching — because they are. You help offload when needed, represent Shepherd professionally, and flag anything that could become a problem before it does.Key Outcomes - Organized by what matters, not just what you do.Delivery & TransportationOperate tractor-trailer and box/flatbed trucks (manual and automatic transmission) on assigned routes throughout the Sterling service areaDeliver electrical materials accurately and on time to job sites, contractor yards, and customer locationsConfirm delivery accuracy before departure and document any discrepancies immediatelyCommunicate proactively with dispatch and branch operations if a delivery is at risk of delayVehicle Operation & SafetyComplete thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections every shift — no shortcutsOperate equipment safely and in full compliance with DOT regulations and Shepherd safety standardsReport mechanical issues, equipment needs, or safety concerns to leadership without delayMaintain current CDL Class A license, DOT certification, and medical card at all timesWarehouse SupportAssist with loading and unloading as needed, including wrapping pallets and staging outbound freightSupport warehouse operations during non-driving time, including picking and packing customer orders when second shift requires itWork collaboratively with the warehouse team to ensure loads are built correctly before they leave the buildingCustomer InteractionRepresent Shepherd professionally at every delivery — your conduct is the customer’s experience of our brandCommunicate clearly and courteously with job site personnel and contractors at every stopFlag any customer feedback, complaints, or concerns to your supervisor the same day they occurWhat Success Looks Like - After 90 Days, You And Your Supervisor Should Both Be Able To Point To These MarkersRoutes are run on time and deliveries are complete and correct — recurring errors or missed stops are rarePre-trip and post-trip inspections are completed every shift without promptingDiscrepancies are documented and communicated the day they occur — not discovered laterCustomers and job site contacts report professional, reliable interactionsVehicle is returned in the condition it left — fueled, clean, and ready for the next runWarehouse team trusts that loads you help stage or pack are right before they go out the doorWho Thrives Here - This role is a strong fit if:You take safety seriously — every pre-trip, every run, not just when someone is watchingYou communicate problems early, not after they become someone else’s issueYou take pride in how you represent the company at every deliveryYou are reliable — your team knows they can count on you to show up ready and executeYou treat the warehouse as part of your team, not a separate functionYou understand that a missed delivery or a sloppy load is not just a logistics problem — it is a broken promise to a customerQualifications & RequirementsCDL Class A license requiredCurrent DOT and Medical Certification cards requiredMinimum 3 years of driving experience with a clean motor vehicle recordAbility to operate tractor-trailer with manual transmissionKnowledge of air brake systemsAbility to lift up to 80 lbs. regularly and perform the physical requirements of the roleHigh school diploma or equivalent preferredForklift certification preferred or ability to obtain through onsite trainingAvailable for second shift (6:00 p.m. – 2:30 a.m.) as business needs requireMust pass pre-employment background check and drug screeningStrong verbal communication skills — you relay information clearly and on timeThis job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by individuals occupying this position of employment.
