ACCOUNTANT
Position Description:Responsible for recording, classifying and summarizing accounting information as prescribed by corporate policy, generally accepted accounting principles GAAP), the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), FASB, GASB and NARUC.Responsible for providing this information to supervision for review as needed, for external and internal customers.Should be a self-starter and possess a moderate level of accounting/ regulatory and system application knowledge in the discipline assigned.May lead and direct the work of an Accountant I.Responsible for applying continuous improvement to all aspects of the job.Accountants may be rotated through the various accounting areas.Essential Job Tasks: Prepare and record various basic entries of a moderate complexity by compiling and analyzing transaction and account information. Maintain appropriate documentation and support for all journal entries. Reconcile general ledger accounts of a moderate complexity to the appropriate sub-system(s) and/or source information which are assigned by the manager. Develop and maintain appropriate documentation and support for reconciliations. Identify and resolve noted variances in a timely fashion. Responsible for maintaining procedures for each key process which includes any process improvement in terms of accuracy and/or efficiency. Complete moderate to complex monthly accounting tasks which could include: gas and diesel accounting process on a monthly basis; completion of allocations and closing routines; project billing duties. Directly works with financial reporting responsibilities such as assisting in the preparation of the management report, O&M reporting, Internal Financial Statement and FERC reporting. Reports and summarizes financial information for internal departments, governmental agencies, benchmarking studies and any audit (external or internal). Other duties as assigned could include special projects, research, or augmenting accounting staff as needed in this or other areas.
