They may be design layouts, materials and information flow, or machine placement. They may also be responsible for increasing production efficiency by evaluating performance and proposing and implementing improvements.The Metrologist responsibilities include installing, maintaining, improving and troubleshooting the various system that affect and/or involved in the manufacturing so that final products meet the established quality standards. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for maintaining the calibration systems within the facility.Main accountabilities and tasks Investigate advanced metrology methods, including multi-sensor CMMs, non-contact inspection systems, and advanced sensors and gaging methodsThis position requires the ability to work with minimal supervision/engineering oversight on a moderate level of engineering support tasksResponsible for manufacturing and QC process design, including machinery selection and automation level selection, example CMM, laser scanning system, vision control system, manual equipment, build strong business case along with development or improvement conceptResponsible for fixtures and new partsProgram leadership on CMMTest mechanical features using coordinate measuring machines (CMM), video-based inspection and measurement equipmentDrive the qualification of new measurement and testing equipmentConsult and guide site/supplier end users on training and maintenance of new fixtures and equipmentResponsible for calibration systems to include risk assessments, calibration schedule, calibration method, calibrations, assist in out of spec instrument investigations and other calibration duties as assigned.Static and Dynamic repeatability studies for Measurement Fixtures, Manufacturing Tooling and Inline Measurement GaugesSupport design engineering on new development projectsEvaluates and provides input to inspection processes via inspection aids and instruction guidelinesProvide “hands on” support to manufacturing during manufacturing, assembly, and test of prototype and production hardware to ensure delivered products meet requirements, are easy to manufacture, and are testable during production for high yield product releaseLead continuous improvement initiatives focused on ensuring processes and techniques are aligned with future business needsTake ownership as the point of contact including training staff of metrology issuesSupport all shifts of 24/7 operations, may need to work off shift on temporary basisMust have experience and qualifications Work experience: 3+ years in a manufacturing environmentEducation: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, physics or mathematical engineeringOther: Proven experience working in a similar role, specifically in the metrology field.Excellent communication and interpersonal skillsStrong organizational skills and analytical mindsetInitiative-taking and able to work both independently and as part of a team.Previous experience working in GxP laboratories is preferredDeveloping knowledge of the basic principles in various engineering disciplinesAbility to investigate and learn new technologies within metrologyRead and understand mechanical drawings including GD&TUnderstand and lead statistical analysisCoordinate, create, and modify inspection routines on CMM for current and new componentsKnowledge of mechanical inspection methods and tools used to determine product acceptancePhysical requirementsIn order to perform the essential functions of this position, with or without reasonable accommodation, the employee must be able to see, hear, talk and use hands and fingers to operate computer hardware and peripherals as well as equipment and tools for basic assembly, packaging and logistics. Employee must be able to lift up to 55lbs on a regular basis as required for packing, shipping and inventory management. Frequent to constant standing and walking throughout the workday. Steel toe shoes are required.
