Package/Material Engineer

The Package/Material Engineer will oversee and manage the complete packaging development process, including the creation of packaging designs, prototype development, and performance testing. This role requires troubleshooting new and existing packaging problems involving designs, materials, and processes, while providing creative, timely, and cost effective solutions.Key Responsibilities IncludeAnalyzing engineering drawings and product specifications to determine physical characteristics, handling requirements, environmental and safety needs, and material requirements for packaging. Establishing standards and guidelines for supplier evaluation, selecting packaging suppliers/vendors, and conducting periodic vendor reviews. Collaborating with global suppliers, engineering, product management, operations, and sourcing teams. Participating in product introduction teams to deliver new products to market. Identifying and implementing cost saving initiatives related to packaging materials, labor, efficiency, transportation, and storage. Working closely with Engineering to optimize the packaging supply base for cost, lead time, quality, regionalization, standardization, supply assurance, and compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal requirements. Specifying and recommending efficiency tools and test methods to develop and validate packaging designs. Partnering with the manufacturing department to ensure packaging designs are optimized for manufacturability.
