This includes work associated with the branding and marketing of Transylvania County, as well as efforts to manage the destination to ensure a sustainable and strong local tourism economy. The TCTDA is funded by a 5% tax on short-term overnight accommodations from hotels, short-term rentals, etc. It is similar to a county department as it relates to things like human resources, purchasing, IT, and county policies. It is different in that it operates with a separate budget and the director reports to the TCTDA Board of Directors.Job SummaryThis role supports the Tourism Director with the overall administration and operations of the organization. Key functions of this role include coordination, administration and data tracking of the organization's grant/funding program and sustainability initiative (Transylvania Always), as well as facilitation of board/committee meetings. In addition, this position serves as the TCTDA's link and primary communicator with tourism-related businesses, individuals, and other relevant organizations in the county.Essential FunctionsOperations and Administration:Coordinate and administer the TCTDA grant program. Serve as point of contact for applicants and grant recipients, track and maintain applications and funding records, organize grant committee meetings.Serve as the primary point of contact and administrator for the Transylvania Always initiative. Organize committee meetings, maintain financial records, and assist the marketing firm with their messaging campaign efforts.Administer and facilitate board meetings which includes the management of meeting room scheduling, logistics, and minute-taking.Coordinate poster and brochure distribution within Transylvania County.Represent TCTDA as an ambassador and representative at local/regional events and partner locations and act as first point of contact for key organizations.Other duties as assigned by management.Outreach & Tourism:Nurture new and current tourism partner relationships and keep them informed of the role TCTDA serves and how they benefit from tourism marketing.Serve as TCTDA's primary liaison to tourism partners and function as the department's first point of contact for all inquiries and partner needs.Promote partner marketing opportunities and coordinate sales, billing, etc. of partner bookings.Promote local lodging and activities to event coordinators to enhance visitors' experience and maximize local dollar spend.Coordinate booth and promotional material fulfilment at events - maintain supplies, coordinate with event planners, attend as needed.Other duties as assigned by management.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge ofMicrosoft office suite, Google drive/suite/docs and WordPress.Board and committee meeting protocols.Transylvania County and surrounding areas.Knowledge and interest in tourism industrySkills:Detail-orientated with the ability to manage multiple projects at a time.Excellent oral/written communications and listening skills.Self-starter, able to work autonomously to complete tasks.High level attention to detail and organization skillsOutgoing and engaging personality with confidence to interact face to face with public.Ability to:Ability to work nights and weekends as needed.Ability to travel up to 10% in the local county area or surrounding area.Education and ExperienceMinimum Education and ExperienceHS Diploma plus 3 years' experience -OR- or Associates degreeAt least 2 years' experience in administrative support role and or grant/funding programs and/or outreach activities.Compensation DetailsSalary Range: $36,712 - $56,908 annually*Transylvania County uses a structured pay plan to ensure equity and consistency. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications (HS Diploma and three years of relevant experience or an associate's degree) typically start at or near $36,712; additional relevant experience results in a higher starting rate within the salary range. *Preferred Education and ExperienceBachelor's Degree in Travel & Tourism Management, hospitality, communications, marketing, business, or similar fieldExperience in tourism or hospitality industryExperience of familiarity with marketing - social media, websites, digital ads, print ads, etc.Additional Requirements:Valid North Carolina Driver's LicenseSuccessful completion of SBI background check with required fingerprinting by Sheriff Office. Otherwise late enrollees are subject to Underwriting guidelines.Supplemental Insurance Products - Mark III Brokerage assists the county to provide a full-array of supplemental products such as Health and Dependent Care FSA accounts, Cancer Policy, Short-term and Long-term Disability, Term Life, Universal Life, Accident or Illness Policy, Hospital Indemnity, and a Vision Plan. The Supplemental Products are available during original employment or open enrollment in May/June of each year to employees at group rates and premiums are paid through payroll deduction. Website for information is:Electronic Payroll Deposit -County Employees are paid bi-weekly, 26 times per year. We deposit your payroll check. Deposits are available to all banks and credit unions. Deposits are made, so you can have access to your funds by Friday morning (payday). You can divide your payroll into two accounts, one you must specify the amount to go into and the second account would receive the balance.Retirement -NC Local Government Employees Retirement System - All full-time employees contribute 6% of their gross earnings and the County matches the contribution. Employees are vested in the program after 5 years of service. Transferable within the state system. The website isPaid Holidays - (12)New Year's Day, Martin Luther King's Birthday, Easter Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving Day and the Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve Day, Christmas Day and the day after Christmas.Paid Vacation/Annual Leave-1-2 years = 10 days; 3-5 years = 12 days, 5-10 years = 15 days, 10-15 years = 18 days, 15-20 years = 20 days; 20 + years = 24 days. Vacation is accrued bi-weekly, therefore you receive 1/26th each payroll.You may accrue vacation and carry over up to 30 days. Thereafter, at the end of the calendar year, if you have more than the 30 days, the excess converts to sick leave.You may cash in up to one week of vacation annually, in lieu of time away from work.In extreme situations employees may request to transfer vacation leave to other employees. Requests must be in writing to the County Manager and must be approved in advance.Vacation should be scheduled in advance as requested by your supervisor. Complete proper leave sheets.If you have prior active service in the NC Retirement System, Transylvania County will give you credit for those years of service toward accrual of vacation/annual leave.Paid Sick Leave-Paid sick leave is always equivalent to 12 days per year. It is accrued bi-weekly. Employees accrue 1/26th of the annual amount per payroll.You may accrue sick leave with no maximum accrual.
