The mission, derived from the Nursing Practice Act, supersedes the interest of any individual, the nursing profession, or any special interest group.LEGAL ASSISTANT IIJob Location:1740 West Adams Street Suite 200Phoenix, Arizona 85007Posting Details:Hourly Pay Range: $18.00 - $24.00Grade: 17This position will remain open until business needs are metJob Summary:Supporting Board attorneys and staff related to Nursing Board cases for settlements, investigations, and hearings in the administrative courts.Growth opportunity available.Major Responsibilities / Essential Functions:Interaction with Board staff, Nurses, Applicants, Opposing Counsel and Assistant Attorney Generals: Providing updates on communications, obtaining evidence, updating Board staff, and assisting with inquiriesInvestigation & Document/Subpoena Support: Assisting in obtaining information and evidence (including subpoenas); tracking and following up on responsesAdministrative: Manage internal calendars, meetings, and agendas; respond to external emails/calls; coordination of third-party vendors/contractorsFiling and Submissions: Preparing and submitting legal documents to the Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH) or administrative agenciesCase Management: Organizing and managing case files, maintaining documentation, gathering evidence, and preparing correspondenceDocument Preparation: Prepare legal documents such as complaints, motions, consent agreements, orders, and correspondenceCompliance Monitoring: Ensuring that the Board of Nursing practices adhere to state and federal lawsOther duties as assigned related to the positionKnowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):Knowledge:The functions and jurisdictions of local, State, and Federal courts and related agencies, legal termination and proceduresThe methods and techniques for writing, reports and other documents in established formatsKnowledge of the concepts, terminology, principles, and procedures of Administrative lawThe use of statutes, codes, and other legal resourcesSkills:Proficiency in legal software, case management systems, Google Docs and Microsoft Office SuiteStrong communication skills, both written and verbalExcellent organizational skills and attention to detailStrong research and writing skillsStrong analytical reasoning skillsHigh level of professionalismMeticulous attention to detailAbility:Work as part of a team and be able to proactively and independently carry out own duties in support of the team's missionEstablish and maintain work relationships with representatives federal, state, and local government agenciesBe able to see issues as opportunities for growth in both self, systems, and relationships, and desire suchBe able to maintain attention and actively listen for long periods of timeBe able to manage multiple caess and deadlines simultaneouslyBe responsible, sensitive, and ethically observe confidentialityWrite legal documents/reportsEducation & Experience:Required:* Educational level at a minimum of an Associate degree or minimum of 5 years of legal assistant or legal secretary experience is requiredPreferred:* An Associate degree in paralegal studies or a Bachelors degree in a major related to lawPre-Employment Requirements:* Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.)* Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignmentIf this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job to conduct State business, then the following requirements apply: Driver's License Requirements.Benefits:The State of Arizona offers a comprehensive benefits package to include:Optional employee benefits include short-term disability insurance, deferred compensation plans, and supplemental life insuranceLife insurance and long-term disability insuranceVacation plus 10 paid holidays per yearHealth and dental insuranceRetirement planSick leaveLearn more about the Paid Parental Leave pilot program here.
