Operations Technician Technician shop maintenance & operations - Mechanic (CDL) advanced diagnostics & repairs - Class A CDL Driver transportation & fleet support Vac2Go's hourly operations team keeps our vacuum trucks safe, compliant, and ready for customers every day. Whether you are maintaining equipment in the shop, diagnosing complex mechanical issues, or transporting units across regional routes, every role on this team directly supports our ability to deliver a high-quality customer experience. These positions are classified as safety sensitive and require strict adherence to DOT regulations, company safety policies, and all applicable federal and state laws. Core Responsibilities Safety & DOT Compliance — All Roles Safely operate company vehicles in full compliance with federal, state, and DOT regulations. Conduct and document pre-trip and post-trip inspections when operating company vehicles. Maintain accurate DOT-required documentation in the Fleet Management system. Immediately report vehicle defects, safety hazards, incidents, citations, or near-misses to the Operations Manager. Maintain valid DOT medical certification and notify management of any change in driving or medical status. Participate in required DOT, safety, and compliance training. Adhere to Vac2Go safety-sensitive workplace policies, including fitness-for-duty requirements. Follow all shop safety procedures, PPE requirements, and hazard reporting protocols. Fleet, Documentation & Compliance — All Roles Maintain detailed records in Fleetio or equivalent Fleet Management systems. Submit required documentation to the Operations Manager or Accounting daily. Keep assigned vehicles clean, organized, and in good working condition. Customer & Team Support — All Roles Respond to customer questions and concerns professionally via phone, email, or in person. Provide basic equipment walk-throughs or usage guidance to customers as needed. Follow up on customer requests in a timely and accurate manner. Represent Vac2Go positively through professionalism, responsiveness, and adherence to safety standards. Role-Specific Responsibilities Technician Review the Plan of the Day and execute assigned repairs and maintenance tasks. Conduct required preventative maintenance, routine repairs, and vehicle diagnostics; escalate complex issues to the Mechanic. Perform bag changes and other standard service tasks. Ensure required parts are available or requested before beginning work. Complete Check-In/Check-Out documentation for vehicles upon return. Monitor the shop and yard for safety concerns and address or report issues immediately. Recommend repair vs. replacement options and escalate decisions requiring approval. Mechanic (CDL) Perform preventative maintenance, advanced diagnostics, and repairs on vacuum trucks, accessories, and equipment — including clutch, brake, A/C, electrical, and hydraulic systems. Utilize industry-standard diagnostic tools to identify root causes and determine appropriate solutions. Ensure all PM schedules and inspection requirements are current and completed. Assess, document, and manage vehicle and equipment damage; review and approve Check-In/Check-Out sheets. Ensure all units meet Vac2Go and DOT standards prior to rental. Support development and execution of the Plan of the Day and Plan of the Week; update the shop board as priorities change. Manage parts and tool inventory; proactively process orders while balancing cost efficiency with quality. Identify training needs and provide guidance or instruction to shop team members. Deliver equipment and truck training to employees and customers as required. Class A CDL Driver Safely transport vacuum trucks and related equipment to and from customer locations per delivery schedules. Plan efficient driving routes and anticipate delays, site restrictions, or resource needs. Comply with all DOT and FMCSA regulations, including Hours of Service (HOS) requirements. Accurately document equipment pick-ups, drop-offs, and delivery confirmations. Participate in required DOT drug and alcohol testing, safety training, audits, and compliance reviews. Report accidents, citations, roadside inspections, or DOT violations to the Operations Manager immediately. Accurately document and report maintenance needs or mechanical issues to Fleet Technicians or Mechanics. Assist with shop duties (cleaning, organizing parts, staging equipment) when not driving. Monitor the Plan of the Day board and stay informed of daily operational priorities. Education & Experience Requirements vary by role. Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications for the position selected above. Education - HS Diploma or GED - HS Diploma or GED - HS Diploma or GED Experience - 1–3 yrs automatic/manual equipment - 5 yrs heavy-duty shop; 2 yrs driving - 3–5 yrs heavy commercial vehicle operation License / Certification - Valid driver's license; DOT certification (CDL or Non-CDL) - Valid driver's license; DOT certification (CDL or Non-CDL) - Class A CDL with tanker endorsement (or ability to obtain within 30 days) MVR & Medical - Clean MVR; current DOT medical card - Clean MVR; current DOT medical card - Clean MVR; current DOT medical card Employment History - 10-year history required - — - — Technical Knowledge - Electrical & hydraulic systems; diagnostic tools - Advanced electrical, hydraulic & mechanical systems; diagnostic tools; Fleet Management & ERP systems - Familiarity with hauling industrial/specialty equipment preferred Required Skills — All Roles Strong written and verbal communication skills.
