Position Summary: The Maintenance Repair Worker 1 is responsible for the performance of manual and semi-skilled work related to the maintenance of buildings. Repairs are generally of limited difficulty and involve the application of skills at less than the journeyman level, but also may involve work at times related to journeyman level. This is the first level of a two-level series. At this level, employees are performing tasks under the guidance of a skilled tradesperson or supervisor. As employees in this class increase their proficiency, they may perform routine, minor repairs and other tasks independently. Duties and Responsibilities: Practices and encourages Facilities workplace expectations. Makes miscellaneous minor repairs and adjustments to various building elements, furnishings, and equipment as directed. Performs preventative maintenance tasks such as changing filters, cleaning and lubrication of operating equipment, belt changing and alignment. Operates and makes simple repairs to power tools related to the trade. Performs minor carpentry and painting. Repairs and maintains plumbing as directed. Performs minor roof patching and repair. May assist in maintaining water testing and treatment of swimming pools and fountains. Fills in on weekends and holidays when required. Subject to after hour's callback for emergencies. Assists other team members as needed. Performs other maintenance related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Two years experience as a Maintenance Repair Worker involving semi-skilled work related to the maintenance and repair of buildings and related equipment and/or Any combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of this position. A valid driver's license is required to drive University owned vehicles and carts. Basic computer skills such as typing, email, ability to fill out service request forms online required. Communicate both orally and in written English. Have the knowledge and training in the safety hazards and precautions associated with this position and other building maintenance functions. Must have knowledge of and be able to use the appropriate PPE (Personal protective equipment) as needed. Must have the ability to effectively interact with a variety of people in a manner that emphasizes strong customer service and portrays the University's programs, personnel and philosophies in a positive manner. Must have the ability to work independently as well as establish and maintain harmonious relations with other staff, faculty and students. Preferred Qualifications High school diploma or GED Physical Demands and Working Conditions Routinely and safely lifts up to 50 pounds.
