Executive Director, Health IT Operations
Overview Job SummaryThe Executive Director of Health IT Operations is responsible for aligning Health IT strategies with UCSF Health's goals, overseeing governance structures, and assisting in the management of the IT portfolio to ensure operational and strategic excellence. This role ensures that the organization's strategic initiatives are prioritized effectively in collaboration with other IT and Operational leaders. It also oversees continual professional development and engagement of Health IT staff, partners with leadership to address organizational and operational challenges, oversees the Health IT Project Management Office (PMO), manages change initiatives, and ensures clear and effective communication across teams. By fostering cross-departmental collaboration and optimizing IT operations, this leader advances UCSF Health's mission and strategic priorities and champions continuous improvement of the department's efficiency and effectiveness to meet evolving needs.Work Environment At UCSF, collaboration and innovation are central to our mission. Most IT teams are expected to work onsite to support campus-based work. This senior management role will be expected to work onsite four days per week to meet operational and departmental needs.IT Program and Portfolio ManagementOversees the Health IT PMO and Portfolio management function.Direct leadership of the major IT Restructuring program that consolidates information technology across UCSF Health.Partners with the Campus IT Operating Model Program Executive on migration of UCSF Health to the IT Operating model to mitigate root causes of information security deficiencies.Partners with the Enterprise Portfolio Manager for UCSF Health to develop consistent portfolio management tools and alignment to enterprise objectives and standards.IT GovernanceEstablish governance structures to engage departmental and information technology leaders in prioritization and decision-making for Health IT systems.Oversee the governance program to ensure ongoing productivity and interconnectivity of governance groups.Assist CIO Health with preparation of materials for SET, CEO Council, and other executive forums.Ensure UC-wide teams have relevant participation; aggregate initiatives and learnings and track applications across UCSF.StrategyCollaborate across UCSF Health to fulfill key elements of the UCSF Health strategic plan and IT's role in outcomes.Coordinate and oversee the IT portfolio of projects in alignment with Health System Executive Team priorities and strategy.Integrate the Health technology roadmap and investment plan with Campus-focused IT leaders.Human ResourcesIT People Development Program: training, education, and continual professional development, role-based team operating model, and new technology skills.Collaborates with HR Strategic Business Partners on staff trends, retention, recruitment, vacancies, and diversity initiatives.Qualifications Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training10+ years of experience in healthcare delivery, including academic health systems10+ years of experience managing/leading information technology organizations7+ years at the entity or system Vice President level or equivalent, with demonstrated program, business, and financial management experienceExpert knowledge of clinical applications concepts, policies, practices, including planning, programming, development, deployment, testing, integration, and user trainingExperience developing and implementing long- and short-range strategic plans, evaluating staff competencies, and managing complex projects in multiple healthcare settingsExceptional leadership, communication, organization, and project management skills; able to navigate politically sensitive issues and negotiate durable solutionsAnalytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to synthesize data, identify system vulnerabilities, and apply creative solutions; drive integration with clinical operationsAbility to collaborate with senior management to align strategic goals across the organization and UC-wideProven ability to lead by influence and manage cross-organizational teamsExcellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to convey information clearly to staff and stakeholdersAdvanced knowledge of healthcare terminology, clinical practices, and clinical information systemsPreferred QualificationsAdvanced degreeAbility to negotiate large multi-year contracts and understanding of UC procurement policiesExperience developing and implementing system-level policiesAbility to work across multiple locations within the health system and affiliatesAbout UCSF UCSF Health is committed to equity, diversity, and excellence.
