Registered Nurse (RN) | Medical-Surgical Location: Penn Yan, NY Agency: Cynet Health Pay: $1,385 per week Shift Information: 12 hours Contract Duration: 14 Weeks Start Date: 5/11/2026 About the Position Job Title: Med/Surg Registered Nurse (Level 1) Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Med/Surg Duration: 14 weeks Shift: Part-Time (2x12s) - Day/Night Variable Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 1 year in Med/Surg environment as a Registered Nurse License: New York State Registered Nurse Licensure required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: - One year experience serving in a Med/Surg environment as a Registered Nurse - New York State RN Licensure - BLS and ACLS certifications Description: The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high-quality compassionate care to patients and families. The RN assesses patient needs, develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates care delivery throughout the patient’s episode. The Med/Surg RN develops specialized skills in the area of cardiac care, including telemetry monitoring. The RN is accountable for patient and family education to assist them in understanding self-care beyond hospitalization, including lifestyle changes to support health and healing. He/She promotes comfort and provides emotional support in a healing environment. The RN applies nursing knowledge and skill in delivering care by assessing patient and family needs through active listening, social perceptiveness, and analyzing data and information obtained through direct observation and assessment, technology, or health team communication. The RN creates a developmentally and age-appropriate, culturally relevant, individualized plan of care to address the nature and scope of the health problems identified. In collaboration with the patient, family, physician, and healthcare team members, the RN sets goals and monitors the patient’s progress. The RN adjusts the plan based on patient response or changes in condition and reprioritizes needs as necessary. The RN promotes, advocates for, and protects the health, safety, and rights of the patient. He/She systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, using the results of quality improvement activities to initiate changes in individual nursing practice and influence care delivery. The RN engages in self-evaluation of practice, identifying strengths and areas in which professional development would be beneficial, and takes accountability to increase knowledge and enhance skills. He/She uses logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. The RN demonstrates skill in the application of nursing interventions, including medication administration. The RN motivates the patient and family by teaching them what is needed to continue care and healing at home. He/She assesses patient and family learning styles and structures sessions to maximize understanding. The RN seeks teachable moments during the care delivery process to emphasize pertinent information. He/She asks questions to evaluate retention of key points in the self-care process. The RN provides tools and information to assist the patient and family after discharge. He/She documents the education provided and the patient/family response to the education. The RN encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to promote collaboration in order to achieve the best possible patient outcomes. He/She teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks and interventions consistent with the individual’s education, training, and scope of practice. The RN complies with infection prevention strategies and maintains competencies required to care for the specific population in the assigned area. He/She reports potential safety risks and inappropriate or questionable practices. The RN promotes leadership awareness and fosters positive change. He/She conducts rounds per protocol and uses tools and equipment needed to keep the patient and family informed, engaged, and safe. Nursing practice reflects the importance of making a meaningful connection with the patient and family. The RN seeks to develop a helping, trusting, and caring relationship by being present in the moment of interaction.
