Job Description
The Operations Manager is in a critical position and is accountable for the performance of all warehouse and mechanic shop operations. The Operations Manager is required to organize, plan (i.e., analyze and forecast production and labor demands), and oversee all warehouse and mechanic shop processes to company standards. These processes include but are not limited to shipping and receiving, inventory control (i.e., quality control and lot management), logistics, and facility/fleet maintenance (transportation). A general overview of the duties and tasks include, but are not limited to the following:
Reviews and analyzes sales and performance data to measure productivity and output with the goal of identifying areas needing improvement, cost reduction, or setting targets.
Directs and coordinates department or process activities to align with goals and targets
Oversees workforce by assigning duties, scheduling, and planning for future demand
Creates and enforces policies and procedures to increase efficiency or to maximize production
Performs personnel functions such as hiring decisions, trainings, and evaluations
Establishes goals and objectives in conjunction with HR, leadership, and other managers
Manages the movement of inventory and quality control issues
Manages a large crew and able to communicate effectively
Acts as a liaison between departments and crew members
Oversees all personnel safety trainings (i.e., general, warehouse, and food) to align with procedures and safety standards
Manages the fleet of trucks and vehicles and other production equipment to ensure safe operation
Stays current on, communicates, and enforces applicable regulations, policies, procedures, and government codes
Oversees regulatory food safety and warehouse safety audits
Maintains records per regulations and company policies
Generates production reports and other performance reports routinely and consistently to inform relevant parties
Ensures proper skills, credentials, and licenses are current in coordination with HR
Audits workforce performance and production processes
Establishes and manages vendor relationships relating to operations and non-inventory supplies
Operates within a budget determined by company goals and production targets
Coordinates with HR to enforce and issue corrective actions and coaching plans
Adjusts quickly to business and production needs in a volatile market
Acts as agent and public representative for the company
Required Skills
Working knowledge of perishable goods industry. Preferred knowledge of the produce industry or of fresh fruits and vegetables
Experience working in warehouse, logistics, and fleet management
Experienced forklift operator
Coaching and training skills
Developing objectives and strategies
Strong statistics, mathematical background, and analytical skills for data analysis and forecasting
Excellent workforce planning skills
Supply-chain knowledge and business intelligence
Working knowledge with general computer applications, such as enterprise resource planning software (ERP), human resources information system (HRIS), project management applications, and Microsoft apps (e.g., Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong communicator
Ability to adapt and manage others in a fast-paced environment while being professional
Complex problem-solving skills
Ability to take initiative, make good judgment decisions, and critically think
Strong organizational and time management skills
Understand, comply, and enforce regulations such as OSHA and federal, state, and local laws
