Job DescriptionNocturnist Physician (MD/DO)Must be legally licensed to practice medicine in North Dakota and/or Minnesota, depending on the location of the practice to which you are assignedPosition SummaryThe Nocturnist Physician provides overnight inpatient medical care to hospitalized patients. This role focuses on admissions, cross-coverage, and acute clinical management during nighttime hours, ensuring continuity of care, patient safety, and timely response to emergent medical needs.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide overnight inpatient medical coverage for hospitalized patientsEvaluate and admit patients from the emergency department and direct admissionsManage acute medical issues and changes in patient conditionProvide cross-coverage for existing inpatientsRespond to rapid response events, codes, and medical emergencies as requiredCoordinate care with nursing staff, consultants, and ancillary servicesCommunicate effectively with patients, families, and care teamsEnsure clear and thorough handoffs to daytime hospitalist teamsMaintain accurate, timely clinical documentationParticipate in quality improvement, patient safety, and utilization initiativesSupervise and collaborate with advanced practice providers or residents as applicableComply with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standardsQualificationsDoctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical schoolCompletion of an accredited residency in Internal Medicine or Family MedicineBoard-eligible or board-certified in Internal Medicine or Family MedicineAbility to obtain and maintain unrestricted state medical licensureDEA registration or eligibilitySkills and CompetenciesStrong clinical judgment and decision-making skills in acute care settingsAbility to work independently during overnight hoursExcellent communication and teamwork skillsAbility to manage high-acuity patients efficientlyCommitment to patient safety and evidence-based careWork EnvironmentAcute care hospital inpatient settingOvernight and shift-based scheduling, including weekends and holidaysPhysical RequirementsAbility to stand and move throughout hospital unitsManual dexterity for bedside assessments and procedures as requiredVisual and auditory acuity sufficient for patient evaluation
