Overview:
In this role you will bridge data engineering and backend development to scale a Google Cloud–based data platform. You'll design and optimize PostgreSQL and BigQuery environments, build data pipelines, and expose data through secure APIs for customer apps and internal tooling. You'll work with cross-functional teams to improve reliability, performance, and cost efficiency, helping retailers gain actionable insights and safer operations. This hands-on role offers impact at scale within a retail tech environment focused on loss prevention and safety. Responsibilities:
Design and maintain PostgreSQL schemas, queries, indexes, migrations, and production DB ops on Google Cloud SQL.Develop and optimize BigQuery datasets, models, views, and reporting pipelines.
Create Python services and pipelines moving data between operations, events, and the data warehouse.
Build secure REST or GraphQL APIs for customer applications and internal tools.
Improve data quality, pipeline reliability, performance, and cloud cost efficiency.
Enforce data access controls and multi-tenant data separation across the platform.
Leverage GCP services and Terraform to deploy and maintain data infrastructure.
Investigate production issues with cross-team collaboration and share knowledge through reviews.
Key requirements:
- Roughly 3–7 years of hands-on data engineering or backend development experience
- Strong BigQuery experience including data modeling, analytical queries, and performance tuning
- Strong PostgreSQL experience with schema design, indexing, and production DB work
- Hands-on GCP experience with BigQuery, Cloud SQL, and data pipeline/backend services
- Production Python development for backend services, data pipelines, or cloud integrations
- Experience building and maintaining data warehouses and reliable data flows
