About the Position
TCH’s Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining accurate, timely, and compliant financial records for the organization. This role supports the Executive Director by ensuring day-to-day financial transactions are properly recorded in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), nonprofit best practices, and applicable federal and state regulations. The Bookkeeper plays a key role in supporting financial transparency, internal controls, and informed decision-making for the organization. Further, the Bookkeeper manages the organization budget and works with key staff leaders to monitor budget performance and collaborates with the accounting firm on the annual audit.
Key Responsibilities:
Reports directly to the Executive Director and as needed to the Treasurer, Finance, and Executive Committees
Accurately records all financial transactions of the organization in accordance with GAAP, legal and IRS Code, and directives from the auditing firm.
Develops and maintains organization’s financial record keeping system, provides reports to all departments on monthly or quarterly basis
Processes biweekly payroll, maintains payroll records, employee accruals, etc.
Processes all receivables, payables and payroll in a timely manner
Responsible for filing sales tax
Responsible for filing 1099s
Manage all back end credit card interfaces: Strip, click and pledge as well as Paypal and square accounts
Serve as administration for CORI and PFML portals
Maintains access to various donor platforms for tracking of donor information of DAF contributions
Responsible for funding SEP-IRA employee accounts monthly
Responsible for attendance to CCC to generate voucher payment
Responsible for managing fund accounts for scholarships, arts fund, and other restricted donations
Generates invoices and provides report of receivables to ED weekly
Prepares bank deposits in accordance with organization’s money handling procedure
Assists in the development and management of the annual operating budget
Works in coordination with accounting firm in preparation for annual financial review/audit
Collaborates with the Program Directors to manage scholarship assistance funding
Attends key fundraising and program events as required such as Bloom to Grow and Block Party
Greets visitors and coworkers with enthusiasm and respect.
Attends all staff meetings and board meetings upon request
Prepares and distributes financials to Treasurer one week prior to board meetings
Other duties as assigned
Key Qualifications:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum 2–5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit organization
Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and nonprofit accounting practices
Experience with fund accounting, including tracking restricted and unrestricted funds
Proficiency with accounting Quickbooks software
Experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable and reconciling bank accounts, credit cards, and petty cash
Familiarity with payroll processing, payroll tax filings, and year-end forms (e.g., W-2s, 1099s)
Ability to prepare financial reports for leadership and board review
Experience supporting annual audits, financial reviews, or IRS Form 990 preparation
High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills
Ability to maintain confidential financial and personnel information
Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with staff, board members, and external vendors
Ability to work independently and manage deadlines in a part-time or flexible work environment
Compensation:
Hourly rate starting at $30, based on qualifications and experience. Simple IRA with 4% match as well as school age child care benefits. 2 weeks paid vacation and 4 paid holidays. Position starts on or after April 7, 2026.
