As a Senior Learning Designer, Math, you'll craft engaging pedagogy, practice exercises, and assessments that bring our virtual teacher ("the Guide") to life. This role combines deep classroom teaching expertise (or equivalent real-world mathematical experience) with learning science principles and digital instructional design to create scalable, high-quality educational experiences for students.What You Will DoDevelop High-Quality Mathematics ContentWrite pedagogy, practice exercises, and assessments from the ground up in grades K-12 mathematicsSequence lessons to align with cognitive development, prerequisite knowledge, and learning progressionsDevelop and adapt curriculum to the latest research and best practicesAnticipate common mistakes and misconceptions and build corrective pathwaysCollaborate Across DisciplinesWork within our content "toolkit" (interactive formats, assessment structures, pedagogical models) to design effective learning experiencesPartner with designers, behavioral scientists, technologists, and SDT experts to bring our virtual teacher to lifeIntegrate motivational principles (e.g., self-determination theory, growth mindset, self-efficacy) into content designApply Learning Science & Instructional DesignLeverage principles of cognitive load theory, pacing, mastery learning, and common misconception analysisDesign scaffolded instruction that supports learner-centered experiencesCreate accurate, clear, and engaging content that works in one-on-one digital settingsProduce Content EfficientlyGenerate high-quality modules with attention to detail and consistencyTranslate hands-on teaching experience or applied mathematical expertise into effective digital pedagogyContribute to repeatable content creation systemsQualificationsTeaching or Applied Math Experience: 5+ years of classroom teaching OR a strong engineering, mathematics, or related technical degree combined with real-world quantitative work experience and some current or prior classroom teaching experience.Demonstrated ability to explain complex concepts in accessible, engaging waysInstructional Design Expertise: Strong background in instructional design with a track record of designing lessons, learning sequences, and assessments for digital and interactive learning environmentsLearning Science Foundation: Deep understanding of cognitive development, learning dependencies, common misconceptions, and cognitive load management, with ability to translate theory into effective teaching practicesCollaboration Skills: Proven ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and adapt to creative and technical constraints while maintaining pedagogical qualityNeed to Have5+ years of mathematics teaching experience, mathematics curriculum development, or a background in engineering, mathematics, or a related technical field paired with real-world professional experience and at least some classroom teaching experienceStrong instructional design background with demonstrated lesson and assessment designDeep knowledge of how students learn mathematics, including common misconceptions and developmental progressionsExcellent written communication skills and ability to produce clear, concise contentStrong organizational skills and ability to work efficiently at scaleComfort working collaboratively with designers, technologists, and behavioral scientistsFlexibility and interest in developing content that may range from elementary school to high school mathematicsNice to HaveTechnical fluency and ease adopting new tools, platforms, and AI-assisted workflowsHands-on experience building applications — formal programming or engineering background a strong plusPrior experience in edtech or digital content creationFormal training in education, instructional design, or learning sciences, mathematics, or engineeringExperience designing content for adaptive or personalized learning systemsFamiliarity with self-determination theory or other motivational frameworks in educationExperience with content production workflows and systems
