LICENSED CLINICAL SOCIAL WKRClayton County, GeorgiaClassification SpecificationFire & Emergency Services Social WorkerCLASSIFICATION TITLE: FIRE/EMS LICENSED CLINICAL SOCIAL WORKER - MENTAL HEALTHPURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATIONThe purpose of this classification is to support Clayton County Fire & Emergency Services' Community Care Teams response to high frequency users of the 911 system. To support those patients who may be homeless persons and person who are exhibiting unusual mental or emotional behavior that is not life threatening. Seeks resources and works with available resources to address nutritional, medical, emotional and shelter needs of homeless persons. Works with police to seek mental health resources for persons who are exhibiting mental health distress but no criminal conduct.This position will require substantial fieldwork as well as office work.Helps train personnel to respond to calls for persons in distress such as homelessness, mental health distress, disoriented person due to age or illness who are lost, and the like.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.Serve as advocate homeless persons to seek support with available resources to the nutritional, medical, emotional and shelter needs of this population. The goal is to locate needed services to keep the homeless persons out of the criminal justice system and 911 system.Work with the Community Care Team to seek mental health resources for persons who are exhibiting mental health distress, that do not require further emergent medical attention.Assist and train Fire Department personnel in responding to mental health calls to include involuntary treatment for mental health crisis as authorized by Georgia law (1013 law).Assist and train Fire Department Personnel in Crisis Intervention for non-criminal human crisis situations. This includes family violence calls where intervention may produce a more long-term resolution than arrest or hospitalization.Receives, verifies, and responds to emergency and non-emergency calls; evaluates scene upon arrival.Prepares for and conducts training and instruction for responding to calls involving mental health and homeless populations. Will include preparing lesson plans, handouts, and audio/video/teaching aids.Monitors and communicates effectively and coherently over radio channels while initiating and responding to radio communications.Establishes and maintains good working relations with the public; attends community meetings; promotes and teaches injury prevention; responds to questions and requests for information.Inventories supplies and equipment; orders and maintains sufficient amount to ensure adequate units are available to perform daily tasks.Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.Completes and prepares a variety of forms, logs, requests, records, reports, correspondence, and various other documents associated with daily responsibilities of this position; maintains patient records; maintains administrative records and files.Maintains current filed and code manuals, policies and procedures, employee handbooks, various maps, addresses, and related material for reference and/or review.Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge and awareness of applicable laws/regulations and current medical standards/techniques; reads professional literature; maintains professional affiliations.Attends meetings, seminars, drills, workshops, and training sessions as appropriate to maintain knowledge of departmental and County Operations, to promote improved job performance, and to stay current with medical standards/techniques; may serve on panels, boards, and/or committees.Cooperates with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies and their officers or representatives when activities are related to investigations within County jurisdiction.ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONSOperates computers, copiers and other office equipment. Operates motor vehicle.Answers the telephone; provides information, advice and guidance; takes and relays messages and/or direct calls to appropriate personnel; returns calls as necessary.Substitutes for co-workers in temporary absence of same; provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed.Fieldwork including responding with police officers to scenes with at risk populations.Performs other related duties as required.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSMust have and maintain a State of Georgia license as a Clinical Social Worker. Have experience addressing the needs of mental health patients to included person suffering from dementia and or experience address the needs of homeless persons. Candidates with a MSW must have completed 3,000 hours of supervised social work of which at least 120 must be documented. Candidates with a DSW that included a supervised internship must compete 2,000 hours of supervised clinical social work experience.Possession of the State of Georgia license as a Clinical Social Worker is sufficient proof of completion of the required hours of supervised experience.ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONSMust be a US Citizen or resident status and must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license. Must possess and maintain all required State of Georgia certifications and/or licensures. Must possess and maintain the basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. Must be able and willing to provide service in the home and in a non-clinic environment, such as roadways, fields, and similar environments. May be required to attain and maintain additional certifications specific to assigned unit.Bilingual preferred.Previous experience in a Community Service Board position.ADA COMPLIANCEPhysical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, lifting, carrying, and pushing.Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals.
