We are dedicated to making a positive impact on education through innovation and collaboration.The Assistant Controller applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information and to prepare financial reports by performing the following duties. The ideal candidate will be located within two hours of Pittsburg, KS, with the ability to support occasional on-site visits. These tasks are accomplished by performing the following duties.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned):Reconciling the Corporate American Express and VISA statements each month and coding the entries to the proper G/L accountsReconciling all health care-related invoices and comparing them to payroll recordsCoding miscellaneous accounts payable (A/P) invoices; processing vendor payments for ACH/Wires through our banking systemOverseeing all aspects of A/P and maintaining the weekly A/P agingWorking with the Travel Coordinator to ensure flight and convention expenses are correctly accounted for; performing convention account analysis and reportingApproving expense reimbursements through Concur and other forms of expense reportingPreparing and analyzing financial information and providing detailed monthly departmental reports to supervisorsSummarizing car allowance calculations for year-end payroll reportingPreparing 1099s at year-endReconciling and paying monthly broker commissionsCompiling and preparing annual budget templates and entering approved budgets into cloud-based material requirements planning system (MRP)Preparing monthly vacation accrual entriesPreparing recurring journal entries, bank reconciliations, use tax, and various other entries for month-end closeCompiling and maintaining project costsAssisting Controller with financial reports and analysis as requestedAssisting Controller with the day-to-day activities and supervision within the Accounting departmentWorking closely with Purchasing, Operations, and other departments dailyQUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor's degree in accounting with two to four years of related accounting experienceWorking knowledge of generally accepted accounting principlesConscientious, detail-oriented worker who is self-motivatedGood organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasksStrong written and verbal communication skills10-key proficient and good computer skills (Excel or similar spreadsheet program)Ability to lift and carry up to 25 poundsAbility to be physically mobile with reasonable accommodation including ability to walk, balance, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, and stoop
