Temporary Kids in Science Program Coordinator
Reporting to the Director of Wesleyan Science Camp, the Temporary Program Coordinator will oversee and coordinate the logistics related to implementing the summer program. The Program Coordinator will work in collaboration with the Wesleyan Science Camp Director and JCCP Coordinator of Community Participation to support the program’s aim to provide opportunities for k-12 students to explore their interests in science and develop critical skills to be used in their scientific pursuits and beyond
Responsibilities include:
Support Program Preparation and Launch;
(March 1st – August 2nd, up to 40 hours)
including; helping promote program and recruit participants, collect applications for program participants, coordinate communications with program participants’ parents/families and program staff, helping to recruit high school program assistants and other related tasks.
Coordinate with Wesleyan Faculty Coordinator to
Identify participating faculty areas of expertise
Assist in procuring materials for the camp
➢ Complete MPS or CRT food handling training
➢ Complete breakfast/lunch program site application
➢ Facilitate select staff orientation agenda items, including:
➢ Overview of 1 week of Wesleyan Science Camp, emergency protocol, and other topics
➢ Program Coordinator will ensure that student applications along with emergency contact information is on premises and accessible to all camp staff.
Program Implementation and Coordination
(1 week camp runs, August 3rd - 7th )
➢ Serve as on site program supervisor, which requires presence for entire program day
➢ Create and distribute schedule of events for 1-week summer component
➢ Oversees Group Management/Discipline for program site
➢ Be part of the rules and norms discussion
➢ Sign-in and out participants
➢ Oversees lunch and breakfast distribution
➢ Serves as Point Person - for staff questions
➢ Oversees ordering food
➢ Check with folks about attendance and no-shows
➢ Managing High School program assistants
➢ Work with high school program assistants to facilitate morning meetings
➢ Oversee completion of program evaluations (online)
➢ Coordinate end of program celebration
➢ Ensure students and parents complete camp survey
Program Wrap and Fall Planning:
(August 8th-August 22th, up to 15 hours)
➢ Distribute schedule for academic year events to participants and families
➢ Follow up with parents to ensure completion of program evaluations
➢ Complete program summary
This position is a hybrid position with on-campus and remote work schedules. All positions may require on campus meetings.
Remote work is only considered for residents of MA, VT, NH, ME, CT, RI, or NY.
