URGENT NEED - CONSIDERING FRESH GRADS TO SR CONSULTANTSJOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIESPatient Care
Performs patient care activities within professional scope of practice, including but not limited to: POCT, IV insertion, patient interview, assessment, discharge, phone education/confirmation, patient transportation, and preparation and administration of radiopharmaceuticals.Ensures patient, family, staff, and visitor safety by monitoring the environment.
Safely screens patients and manages clinical and research-driven evaluations for implanted devices to obtain imaging clearance, including patient event reporting (UHC/PSN) and Stop the Line.
Maintains strict control of access to clinical areas (e.g., Hot Lab, technical, supply areas).
Follows ALARA safety guidelines, with specific focus on high-energy cyclotron- and generator-produced PET radiopharmaceuticals.
Recognizes signs of patient distress and initiates or assists with emergency response teams (nurse/physician, DIURT, MERIT, Code Blue).Adheres to all infection control practices.
Utilizes sterile or aseptic technique where applicable.
Handles contrast media and delivery equipment per manufacturer and division standards, administering contrast agents in accordance with the six rights of medication administration (Right Patient, Route, Dose, Time, Medication, Documentation).Applies knowledge of age-specific criteria in performing assigned duties.
Recognizes examination findings requiring immediate clinical response and notifies the interpreting radiologist (e.g., critical results).
Demonstrates the ability to work effectively in all assigned areas.
Demonstrates flexibility to patient care demands, including early arrival, late departure, alternative shift coverage, emergency ride-out team participation, and rotational call coverage as assigned.
Travels to off-site regional patient care facilities as needed (e.g., Bellaire Imaging Center, West Houston Imaging Center, CABI).Technical Acumen
Demonstrates technical proficiency to produce high-quality exams across routine, advanced, immediate care, inpatient, and on-call procedures.
Ensures correct imaging site, positioning, annotation, and parameters.
Applies knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy to identify pathology and obtain diagnostic information.
Demonstrates understanding of nuclear medicine, molecular imaging, PET principles, and imaging parameters affecting image quality.
Maintains productivity standards as defined by the section.
Minimizes error rates to benchmarked levels.
Independently operates assigned nuclear medicine, PET, and hot lab equipment, including quality assurance activities and collaboration to resolve image quality concerns.REQUIREMENTS
Required Education: Associate's degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or related field.
Preferred Education: Bachelor’s Level Degree
Required Certification: All of the following: Nuclear Medicine Technologist certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist by the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB). Licensed by the Texas Medical Board (TMB) as a Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist (CMRT). Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
Preferred Certification: Additional certifications: - ARRT - NMTCB - PET - ACLS - PALS/ PEARS
Required Experience: One year imaging experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist/PET - OPEN TO CONSIDERING FRESH GRADS
Preferred Experience: Imaging experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist at M.D. Anderson or other experience in a related discipline. Graduate from an approved Nuclear Medicine Technology Program with one year of clinical experience.
