Accountant Specialist
Position OverviewScouting America is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Accountant Specialist to support the organization’s financial operations through the maintenance of accurate accounting records, general ledger activity, and timely financial reporting. This position is responsible for a broad range of accounting functions to ensure the integrity of financial data and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applicable Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) guidelines.This position reports to the Supervisor, Subsidiary Ledgers.ResponsibilitiesReviews the posting of journal entries and general ledger reconciliations performed by the account staff related to the maintenance of the general ledger and sub ledgers in recording accounts payable, payroll, and related journal entries.Oversees the preparation of standard and financial reports such as balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements according to GAAP. May prepare more specialized reports as needed. Ensures the accurate compilation, analysis, and reporting of accounting data.Identifies problems and develops new methods to improve accuracy and productivity of the staff engaged in conducting accounting procedures.May assign work and give general work direction to accounting assistants. Monitors deadlines and resolves conflicts to ensure the timely completion of tasks and department goals.Acts as a liaison between the organization, the government, and outside auditors in providing the required information and ensuring that proper documentation is maintained for historical purposes.Represents the department in organizational meetings and provides accounting information to other departments, locations, or divisions.Performs other job-related duties as assigned.CompetenciesKnowledge of: Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) guidelines; accounting principles and practices, including debit/credit rules, double-entry bookkeeping, and financial statement preparation; budgeting and forecasting; internal controls and financial reporting regulations; relevant accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP).Skill in: Time management and organization; analytics and problem-solving; attention to detail and accuracy; interpersonal communication (written and verbal); using Microsoft Office Suite.Ability to: Review and analyze financial data accurately; prepare standard and specialized financial reports; identify and resolve accounting issues; mentor and motivate accounting staff; effectively communicate complex financial information to various audiences; adapt to changing situations and learn new information quickly.QualificationsMinimum of three (3) years of experience in accounting roles, preferably with general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, and journal entry responsibilities.Must pass a criminal history background check.
