Shop TechnicianEssential Functions:Must be capable of removal and installation of components by following the appropriate service manualUnderstand and utilize various exchange items and evaluate price of exchange vs. cost of repairSafely and properly operate and inspect machines, vehicles, and/or engines to diagnose defectsDiagnose, troubleshoot, and repair all components of equipment including but not limited to engines, power trains, hydraulics, fuel systems, power generation, and electrical codesFormally document the work done on the equipment utilizing specific service report softwareComplete work assignments and assigned training within allotted time and secure and maintain appropriate licensingMaintain good work habits and comply with all safety and company regulationsPerform other duties as requested by managementQualifications:Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year College or technical school preferredQualified applicants will have experience in troubleshooting and repairing diesel-powered heavy equipmentPrior experience is preferredThe candidate must have basic computer skills. Be able to navigate a computer to open programs and type information into specific softwareMaintains good work habits and presents a favorable business image towards customers served by the companyAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memosAbility to write simple correspondenceAbility to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organizationAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphsAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructionsAbility to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situationsMust own proper tools to perform required repairsTypical Physical Activity:The employee must have the ability to occasionally lift 75 pounds from floor to chest; reach and use the arms with a full range of motion; endure prolonged standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and squatting while performing mechanical operations; exert push and pull forces with the arms in order to use various wrenches and tools; endure prolonged forward and overhead arm positions while performing mechanical operations; use hands to grasp hand tools and parts and climb onto and operate equipment.Typical Environmental Conditions:Employees regularly work indoors around moving mechanical parts. May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity. The noise level may be loud at times. Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high-speed rotating equipment. Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment. Required to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high places.The Flat Rate Shop Technician must perform the essential duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation efficiently and accurately, and without causing significant safety threat to self or others.
