This position plays a key role in ensuring timely service connections, disconnections, and customer-related field requests while supporting accurate meter data and reliable service delivery.Essential Job FunctionsAn employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties:• Completes assigned service orders generated by Customer Service, including service connections, disconnections, high consumption investigations, meter locks, and related field requests.• Reads meters and records consumption along assigned routes to support accurate billing.• Drives and walks established routes in varying weather conditions.• Performs basic troubleshooting of meters, transmitters, and related equipment and reports deficiencies.• Assists with installation, repair, and replacement of meters and associated components as assigned.• Assists in maintaining and testing meter equipment to ensure proper operation.• Maintains and operates assigned equipment, including handheld devices, tools, and work vehicles.• Works closely with Customer Service and Water Operations to report field observations and assist with account-related issues.• Responds to customer inquiries and concerns in the field, providing clear information and maintaining professionalism in high-stress situations.• Assists Water Distribution and Water Operations staff with locating meters.• Responds to customer inquiries and educates customers on water consumption and basic leak detection.• Ensures meter accessibility by clearing debris and obstructions as needed.• Manages daily workload and completes tasks in a timely manner.• Performs other job duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA's) for PositionAn employee in this class must have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities upon application:Knowledge• General maintenance tasks and procedures.• Streets and geography of the City.• City's functions, policies, and procedures.Skills• Strong written and oral communications and relational skills.• Public relations and customer service.• Follow and relay oral and written instructions, policies and procedures.• Operate a variety of office equipment, including computer terminal, printer, calculator, fax, typewriter, and copier.Abilities• Work with customers and education about basics of water consumption.• Perform manual labor under adverse weather conditions.• Learn and retain skill in operation and maintenance of equipment and tools related to the position.• Works outside extreme weather conditions with exposure to pets, animals, and the public.Physical DemandsThe work is medium work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
