To learn more, please visit www.visionfund.com and https://group.softbank/en.Position SummarySoftBank’s Tax team is seeking a VP of Tax with a strong foundation in U.S. tax law and a demonstrated interest in AI innovation and AI infrastructure developments. This role will play a critical part in providing both U.S. transactional and operational tax advice to the business as well as advancing SoftBank’s U.S. tax function to ensure that it is both agile and technology enabled.This dynamic role will entail deep involvement in both U.S. transaction workflows and U.S. operational tax matters. Additionally, it will involve managing key tax relationships across the Group’s controlled U.S. portfolio companies, ensuring alignment on tax strategy, risk management, and operational execution.The ideal candidate is a highly organized, self-directed and commercially minded tax professional who can independently perform complex tax analyses, translate technical findings into actionable insights, and communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.This position reports to the U.S. Tax Director, who oversees the company’s U.S. tax planning and operations.Key ResponsibilitiesUS Transactional Support Supporting tax planning for strategic M&A transactions and private equity–style investments, partnering with advisors to develop and implement tax-efficient structures, and participating in the negotiation, review, and drafting of tax-related provisions in transaction documents.Preparing transaction structure memoranda and executive summaries for internal stakeholders, including for company board and investment committee approvals.Maintaining transaction documentation and collaborating with internal tax team members to ensure alignment and knowledge sharing. US Tax Operations SupportSupporting the Group’s U.S. business initiatives and working cross-function to design and execute efficient tax processes and operating frameworks for AI infrastructure projects.Partnering with the internal teams to review, negotiate, and advise on the tax aspects of commercial agreements (e.g., purchase and sale agreements, financings, joint ventures, and service agreements).Supporting the business in relation to U.S. federal income tax, state and local taxes, customs and trade, and other relevant tax matters, as needed, ensuring efficient and compliant tax outcomes.Evaluating tax strategies related to key U.S. tax regimes (e.g., BEAT, CAMT, GILTI, R&D credits, and state unitary reporting) applicable to U.S. companies within the SoftBank-controlled group. Analyze impacts on operations and coordinate with portfolio tax teams to ensure consistent application of tax positions and optimize group-wide outcomes.Group Tax Support Support global tax reporting and compliance processes, including Pillar Two assessments, and support SoftBank Group’s tax team in ensuring compliance with global policies and evolving regulatory frameworks.Monitor developments in U.S. tax laws and regulations, assess their potential impact on the business, and proactively communicate implications and recommended actions to relevant stakeholders.Qualifications & Experience7+ years of experience in U.S. tax or tax law, ideally gained at a leading law firm, Big Four or accounting firm, or within an in-house tax or legal function.Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent required; an LL.M. in Taxation, Master’s in Taxation, CPA, or CFA designation is a plus.Demonstrated ability to analyze and advise on U.S. tax matters in transactional and contractual contexts, with strong knowledge of partnership and corporate tax rules relevant to M&A, investments, and restructuring transactions.Solid understanding of U.S. federal and state tax compliance frameworks, with familiarity with international tax concepts (e.g., CFC Regimes, Pillar Two, Double Tax Treaties) considered advantageous.Proven ability to leverage emerging technologies to enhance workflows, including experience with AI-enabled tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Notion, NotebookLM, Lucidchart, Bloomberg BNA AI, or similar platforms).Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex tax concepts into clear, actionable, and business-oriented guidance.Compensation DisclosureThe base salary for this position may range from $180k to $210k and the total compensation package may include discretionary bonus components and a comprehensive benefits package.
