As a Roadway Project Engineer / Task Manager, you'll join a collaborative team delivering impactful roadway and highway projects for WisDOT and local agencies throughout Wisconsin.In this role, you'll lead the planning, design, and delivery of transportation infrastructure projects from concept through final design. You'll apply your roadway design expertise while taking on project leadership responsibilities, managing project tasks, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, mentoring developing engineers, and helping clients achieve successful project outcomes.What you'll doSupport the design and delivery of roadway and highway improvement projects for WisDOT, including urban and rural corridors, freeway and interchange improvements, reconstruction projects, intersection improvements, and multimodal transportation facilitiesPrepare and oversee the development of plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E), design calculations, technical reports, quantities, and cost estimatesUtilize Bentley OpenRoads Designer (ORD), MicroStation, and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D to develop roadway geometry, corridor models, alignments, profiles, and construction plansServe as a task manager for transportation design projects, supporting scope, schedule, budget, deliverables, and client coordinationCoordinate with multidisciplinary teams including traffic, drainage, structures, environmental, utilities, and construction professionalsCollaborate with WisDOT staff, municipalities, and other project stakeholders throughout the project lifecyclePerform and oversee quality reviews to ensure compliance with WisDOT standards, the Facilities Development Manual (FDM), and applicable federal guidelinesProvide technical guidance and mentorship to early-career engineers and designersSupport project planning, proposal development, and client relationship activitiesProvide engineering support during construction, including design clarifications, field reviews, and resolution of project challengesHere's what you'll needBachelor's degree in Civil EngineeringProfessional Engineer (PE) license in Wisconsin, or ability to obtain through reciprocityMinimum of 5 years of experience in roadway design, highway design, transportation engineering, or civil transportation projectsExperience delivering WisDOT transportation projects and working with Wisconsin design standards and specificationsProficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, experience with MicroStation platforms is a plusStrong understanding of roadway geometrics, corridor modeling, intersection design, plan production, quantities, and PS&E developmentExperience coordinating multidisciplinary project teams and managing project tasks and deliverablesStrong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skillsIdeally, you'll also haveExperience serving as a task manager or taking a lead role on design projectsKnowledge of WisDOT project development processes, permitting requirements, and construction administration supportExperience mentoring engineers or designers and coordinating with clients and project stakeholdersOur health and welfare benefits are designed to invest in you, and in the things you care about.
