Nonprofit Controller
A well-established nonprofit organization in New Castle County is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead its finance function. This role offers a unique blend of operational accounting, team leadership, and mission-driven impact. This position offers a four-day work week, with offices closed on Fridays.What You'll Oversee:Financial Operations & ReportingLead the monthly close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reportingPrepare and review financial statements, identifying trends and key variancesOversee banking activity, journal entries, and transaction reportingMaintain integrity across the general ledger and supporting schedulesReconciliations & ControlsPerform and review reconciliations across cash, investments, and GL accountsStrengthen and maintain internal controls and financial policiesEnsure documentation is current, consistent, and audit-readyBudgeting & AnalysisSupport the annual budgeting process and ongoing financial planning effortsDeliver monthly performance reporting and insights to leadershipProvide financial guidance to internal stakeholders and affiliated entitiesAudit, Systems & ComplianceServe as the primary liaison for external auditors and support audit readinessPartner with system providers and internal teams to optimize accounting processesMaintain and update the chart of accounts and financial systems infrastructurePayroll, Benefits & DisbursementsOversee payroll processing and ensure accurate recording of compensation and benefitsManage inflows and outflows of funds, including allocations across multiple entitiesCoordinate with benefits administration to ensure proper financial trackingLeadership & TrainingLead, mentor, and develop finance staff while promoting accountability and growthProvide training on financial systems, policies, and process improvementsAct as a resource to non-financial stakeholders, offering guidance and supportWhat They're Looking For10+ years of progressive accounting experiencePrior leadership experience managing or mentoring staffNonprofit experience (required)Solid understanding of GAAP and internal controlsExperience with accounting systems and Microsoft Excel
