Mechanical Engineer

Mechanical Engineer - Space-Based Interceptor SystemsEl Segundo, California | On-siteA venture-backed aerospace and defense startup is developing next-generation space-based interceptor systems designed to address emerging national security threats. The team is building advanced flight hardware that combines propulsion, structures, controls, and integrated vehicle systems with a strong emphasis on rapid development, testing, and real-world performance. This role is focused on hands-on mechanical engineering execution across interceptor structures, packaging, prototyping, integration, and test support. The engineer will contribute directly to the development of space-based interceptor (SBI) platforms from early concepts through hardware demonstration and iterative testing. This is an execution-heavy role ideal for someone who enjoys working closely with hardware in a fast-moving engineering environment.Job DutiesSupport the design and development of mechanical and structural systems for space-based interceptor platformsCreate CAD models, assemblies, manufacturing drawings, and integration layoutsAssist with vehicle packaging, mounting strategies, brackets, and subsystem integrationPerform structural and mechanical analysis to support hardware reliability and survivabilitySupport prototype builds, hardware integration, and assembly activitiesParticipate in testing, troubleshooting, and iterative hardware improvementsWork closely with propulsion, electrical, controls, and aerodynamic engineers during development activitiesAssist with material selection and manufacturing coordination for aerospace-grade hardwareInterface with machine shops, fabrication vendors, and suppliers to support hardware productionBuild development fixtures, test setups, and prototype hardware as neededContribute to hands-on machining, fabrication, and hardware modification effortsQualificationsB.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field3+ years of hands-on mechanical engineering experienceStrong CAD experience with mechanical assemblies and integration workExperience supporting prototype development, hardware integration, or testingFamiliarity with structural analysis and mechanical design fundamentalsExperience working with aerospace-grade materials and manufacturing processesComfortable working directly with hardware in a fast-paced engineering environmentStrong communication and collaboration skills across technical teamsPreferred ExperienceExperience supporting missiles, interceptors, UAVs, spacecraft, launch systems, or other aerospace hardware programsHands-on machining or fabrication experience using manual or CNC equipmentFamiliarity with vibration, thermal, or environmental testingExperience working with external vendors and prototype manufacturing partnersExposure to high-performance or high-temperature mechanical systemsExperience supporting rapid iteration hardware development programsWhy Join UsHigh ownership role with direct impact on next-generation space-based interceptor hardwareOpportunity to work on advanced national security systems at the intersection of space and defenseFrequent hands-on testing, prototyping, and hardware iterationSmall engineering team with significant technical exposure and growth opportunityWork closely with experienced engineers across propulsion, structures, controls, and integration$110,000 - $150,000
