Executive Director of Programs and Veterinary Services

We are seeking a dynamic and mission-driven Executive Director of Programs and Veterinary Services to join one of the Pacific Northwest's largest and most impactful animal welfare organizations. This contract-to-hire, fully onsite role is a rare opportunity to step into a transformational leadership position at a critical moment in the organization's history. The ideal candidate is an experienced veterinary operations leader who knows how to run a complex, multi-site organization - someone who leads with both clinical credibility and strong managerial instincts. This is not a purely clinical role. We are looking for someone who can manage people, drive accountability, and build a high-performing team.Key Responsibilities: Oversee all animal care programs and veterinary services across multiple facilitiesLead and develop a high-performing team including veterinary staff, animal welfare directors, and program managersPartner with organizational leadership in a co-leadership model to drive strategy, budget, and operationsEnsure the highest standards of animal care and regulatory compliance across all departmentsManage a diverse workforce including union and non-union staff and volunteersBuild and maintain relationships with donors, veterinary partners, and community stakeholdersProvide regular reporting and strategic updates to the Board of DirectorsRequired Qualifications: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM)Washington State DVM license in good standing by start dateAbility to obtain DEA license for shelter drugsMinimum 3 to 5 years of senior management experience in a mid to large sized animal welfare or veterinary services organizationStrong leadership and people management skillsExperience managing budgets and driving operational outcomesPreferred Qualifications: Multi-site veterinary or animal welfare operations experienceExperience navigating union workforce dynamicCAWA certification or equivalent credentialBenefits: Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurancePaid time off and holidays401(kMission-driven culture undergoing an exciting transformationPowered by JazzHR
